There used to be so many books for less than £5 on there. It's not my imagination that this has changed is it?
Corona I'm guessing...

Oak “ But most books have a jacket price, so cost the same in every shop - Amazon or not?”

This changed about 20 years ago.

Re Abe books

If you’re bothered about Amazon, then do note that they own Abe.

I can’t wait for the library to open!

WisestIsShe · 20/05/2020 06:26

@LilacTree1 I didn't know that! Shock

cyclingmad · 20/05/2020 13:34

GreyGardens88 · 23/05/2020 12:30

Just buy a Kindle, honestly they're marvellous things

MidsummerMurder · 23/05/2020 12:38

It’s why I miss the charity shops.
I live in an upmarket area, with a lot if residents who buy the latest must-read, read it once and dump it. Constantly.
Then I get them for under £3 a couple of months later, in mint condition.

MoaningMinniee · 23/05/2020 12:48

As an Amazon boycotter I use Kobo instead of Kindle. Still plenty of 99p books, or free - although very often they're the first of a series with a cliffhanger at the end and they're hoping you'll be so desperate to know what happened that you'll buy the next! I always check reviews on Goodreads to make sure before I invest any emotional energy. I have signed up to BookBub to see the discounted books. Ebook prices and availability are very similar to Amazon.

For real books I like to use our independent local shop, however they have been unable to safely open at all - I think three of the five staff are shielding.

I didn't know about Abe belonging to Amazon, although I should have guessed, when you go on Fantastic Fiction Amazon and Abe are the preferred advertisers side by side. Thanks @LilacTree1!

MoaningMinniee · 23/05/2020 12:49

As for second hand real books, I've got a huge crate ready for the charity shop and can't wait to get in to choose new ones!

LiveGr33n · 23/05/2020 16:21

I loved The Dutch House

theneverendinglaundry · 25/05/2020 07:48

I'm really missing charity shops too, so many of my books have come from there, new releases that are read once and then donated! Some of the shops are 5 for £1!

I have noticed the book prices on Amazon and Ebay have increased.

Marriedtoapenguin · 25/05/2020 16:31

I've seen loads of offers on amazon kindle for ebooks.

Don't buy hard copy 99% of the time so can't comment on pricing of physical books.

Loads of 99p books. Lovely

mum2jakie · 25/05/2020 17:29

I normally buy my paperbacks from Wordery but they have barely any stock in at present!

I managed to buy a bundle of books directly from Penguin which worked out at £20 for five books.

I’ve noticed this too, ordered some books for my mum pre lockdown they were 89p + £3 postage. Went on a few days ago to order myself some all the used were suddenly £10!

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/05/2020 22:53

You can buy books online from Oxfam’s website.
