I have been listening to the Shetland series on audiable.
I wondered if anyone else had noticed that Willow Reeves totally loses her Shetland accent as the series goes on?
She goes from full on Scottish in the first book she appears in to well spoken English by book 7.

I have no one to talk to about it and it's really bugging me Grin

I only listened to the first one and loved how the pronunciation of Lerwick changed from Lurwick to Lerrick and back again !

It depends on which part of the islands you're from. I think Steven Robertson (whose character is from Whalsay) would be more likely to pronounce it "Laarwick". Steven is actually from Vidlin on the would be more Lerrick. Confusing for someone trying to copy the accent.

I did find it odd that Perez definitely says Lerrick and his character is from Fair Isle. The Fair Isle pupils at my school were more in the Laarwick camp.

Shetlanders just call it "da toon".
