The Discomfort of Evening

Anyone read it? I thought it was very very grim. It was a compelling read but it made me anxious so I rushed to finish it. I'm not sure what I think now, I feel like the author went too far and tried too hard to be shocking in some places

It's an odd book, isn't it. It's very well written but some of the detail - especially scatalogical detail - didn't sit well with me ..
