Just that really, I have also read both Celeste Ng books and loved those, looking for new authors.

TIA

Try

Ann Patchett
Anne Tyler
John Boyne
Taylor Jenkins-Reid
Tracy Chevalier

Also have a look at Goodreads, if you tell it what you like it will make other suggestions for you.

Barbara Kingsolver
Elizabeth Gilbert (the fiction, not Eat Pray Love)

Curtis sittenfeld

I just read Melissa Harrison's All Among the Barley and really loved it. Also Hawthorn Time.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 20/04/2020 16:22

If you like Kate Atkinson's more serious books, I think that you would like Patrick Gale - Notes on an Exhibition and A Perfectly Good Man.

milienhaus · 20/04/2020 22:03

I would second Patrick Gale (Notes on an Exhibition), Curtis Sittenfeld (American Wife) and Barbara Kingsolver (Poisonwood Bible).

godhelpusall · 21/04/2020 07:59

I've just read Lucy Atkins and Lucy Foley. Enjoyed them. Also where the crawdads sing by delia Owens

LemonScentedStickyBat · 21/04/2020 09:01

Also just remembered Elizabeth Strout (no) - author of Olive Kitteridge

LemonScentedStickyBat · 21/04/2020 09:02

(No) was meant to say (I think)!

fassbender · 21/04/2020 09:48

Thank you! I have read Sally Rooney and some Anne Tyler, so thanks for recommendations - I'll check them out :)

Lots of good recommendations above OP.

You could also try Sue Gee, particularly Earth and Heaven and The Mystery of Glass. She's a writer who deserves to be more widely known.

Modestandatinybitsexy · 21/04/2020 11:00

Sarah Waters
Kate Morton

Rua13 · 21/04/2020 15:36

Edna O'Brien

Snugglepiggy · 21/04/2020 20:38

Another one for Ann Tyler
Also Helen Dunmore books I have always loved.

RoyalCorgi · 23/04/2020 10:12

Lots of good suggestions in here. I'd also suggest Elinor Lipman (an underrated American author who writes light, slightly comic, literary fiction). Also Alison Lurie and Carol Shields - Shields died a few years ago and seems to have been forgotten, but she's brilliant.

Ikeameatballs · 27/04/2020 20:24

I like the same authors so this has given me ideas.

I also like Jon McGregor and Patrick Gale.

inthekitchensink · 27/04/2020 20:36

I like the same and I love
Sarah Moss
Grace McCleen
Margaret Atwood
Laura Purcell
Megan Abbott
Gillian Flynn
Jilly Cooper (sorry not sorry)

inthekitchensink · 27/04/2020 20:36

Second Elizabeth Gilbert - Signature of All Things is simply beautiful

inthekitchensink · 27/04/2020 20:37

Actually I love all those recommended by previous posters - you won’t go wrong with any of those

HollowTalk · 27/04/2020 22:28

What about Carol Shields? I love her books. Have you read any Anita Shreve?

Cityzen74 · 28/04/2020 08:01

Have you read any Salley Vickers? Miss Garnett’s Angel is one of my favourite books.
