Has anyone read it? I loved it so much, Alma was fantastic. I can't believe it was written by the author who wrote eat pray love as I detested that book! I now want her to do a follow up book about Prudence.

Another fan here. I love epic historical fiction and this ticked all the boxes.

Earthly Joys - Philippa Gregory (similar botanical theme)
This Thing of Darkness - Harry Thomson
As Meat Loves Salt - Maria McCann

It was brilliant wasn't it? I have recommended it before, but been shot down because its the Eat Pray Love author.

Have you read the poisonwood Bible?

It’s a fabulous book. Elizabeth Gilbert is a really talented literary writer, it’s a pity in a way that EPL is what she’s best known for. And it’s not that it’s a badly-written book, it’s just that the ‘finding yourself’ genre is an easy target for criticism.

Yes I lived it too. Has anyone read City of Girls?

I loved the Signature of All Things too. Absolutely loved it. And also as a PP said, the Poisonwood Bible - they have a similar feel and epic span. Agree that Elizabeth Gilbert doesn’t get the literary credit she deserves because she’s badged as chick lit (hate that phrase).

I have - I though it was good, but not as good as TSOAT.

Asterisktheknackered · 20/01/2020 22:22

I have to admit if I'd seen the author first I probably wouldn't have read it! Few good recommendations here, thank you.
