I’ve just finished reading the family upstairs and I’m about to finish the turn of the key. I quite liked the creepy ness of Them.

What else might I like? Tia

The Woman in Black?

MamaKarmaLlama · 09/01/2020 07:46

Florence and Giles by John Harding. Trying to think of others...

MamaKarmaLlama · 09/01/2020 07:49

There’s a Sarah Waters one too, will try and find name.

MyCatScaresDogs · 09/01/2020 07:53

The Sarah Waters one might be The Little Friend.

If you like creepy classics, I’d recommend The Woman in White and Bleak House.

MamaKarmaLlama · 09/01/2020 08:09

Yes! That’s it!

MamaKarmaLlama · 09/01/2020 08:11

Henry James wrote several other creepy short stories, all quite good.

MamaKarmaLlama · 09/01/2020 08:12

Edgar Allen Poe?

I’ve read the woman in black at middle school but that was over 20 years ago so might give the book another go.

Read bleak house too. Thanks for the other suggestions off to go have a look. Keep em coming :)

The house next door by anne rivers siddons

Its not a book from the same era as you mentioned but it is one of stephen king's favourite books and its VERY creepy. If you enjoy slow building, insidious, mysterious, nerve jangling thrillers you will love this!

bungleZippy12 · 10/01/2020 20:45

I’ve said this before on another thread but look at Riley sager and Shari Lapena, both thriller type books by authors of a similar style to those you mention!

bungleZippy12 · 10/01/2020 20:48

I’ve thought of others as well, anything by Cara Hunter, and you should deffo check out books called The escape Room (by Megan Goldin I think) my lovely wife and the silent patient.

Try Gillian McAllister - real page turners

Trinia · 10/01/2020 23:54

The Taking Of Annie Thorne by C.J Tudor (also Chalk Man, same author)

Little Darlings by Melanie Golding

Devils Dice by Rox Watkins

The Foster Child by Jenny Blachurst

I also Second My Lovely Wife by Sam Downing and The Silent Patient 👍
