The Secret of Cold Hill Peter James

I've just got this but now I see that it follows on from one called, 'The House on Cold Hill.'

Do I need to read that one first, or can I read The Secret of Cold Hill as a standalone? I hope I can!

I've just finished it and I had no idea that it followed another book until I saw your post!

I read it and although earlier events were hinted at (presumably in the earlier book) it didn't mean I couldn't enjoy it as a stand alone.

I enjoyed it for the most part and thought there were some really creepy moments in it, the ghostly vicars and the cockroaches, although I did think the couple-at first- took ghosts appearing willy nilly in their stride.

If I saw a ghost in my house, I don't think my first reaction would be to turn on the TV and have something to eat! The characters of the neighbours began to grate-they touched a bit too much onto caricature-all that beginning every sentence with, 'My Love'

I think the ending was set up to make way for a third book.....

Will you read the first one now? I don't think I will, as it would be too easy to guess what happens.
