Thank you for the alert. Bought it! I have seen the tv adaptations but not read any of the other books in the series. Should I read those first?

I would definitely recommend reading them in series order. Luckily they are all excellent! The first in the series is The Cuckoo's Calling. Although if you've seen the tv adaptation you'll understand much of the characters back stories.
