I love spoilers and this is on my list
I’m so tired of books claiming excitement and twists and there aren’t any
So love to hear all the details before reading.

I’m listening Grin

Saucery · 11/08/2019 14:52

Marking thread quickly to come back to as half way through but don’t want Spoilers. I do have Theories though, lots of Theories Grin

rosegoldwatcher · 11/08/2019 15:03

Have just downloaded Kindle sample...

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 17:33

I will wait until you have all finished it. I loved it but have a few things that annoyed me and the ending felt a bit rushed.

I like the sound of it, it's on my list. I've enjoyed a few of hers.

RosaWaiting · 11/08/2019 20:05

You lot have spoiled my spoilers Grin

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 20:15

Bought it. £7.99! - It had better be worth it!

JUst over a third through and it is compelling.

RosaWaiting · 11/08/2019 20:22

Oh I haven’t bought it, it’s on my list.

I have had many disappointing books lately so will wait to hear what y’all say!

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 20:27

Rosegold I also paid 7.99, a lot on kindle, and read it in 2 days. It was worth it.

I think she's a fantastic writer. It was dark in a similar way to another novel by her 'then she was gone' which was also fantastic with a rushed ending!

Oh I'm.not, shame. She always seems lovely I've tweeted her before and she's replied. I've read all her books.

I finished this one this morning. I read it quickly and I enjoyed it but I didnt love it. I was disappointed with the ending I think. As you say it all felt very rushed.

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 22:04

Yes and spoiler alert...........

Why did she trust and accept Henry after she knew he had drugged her?

OP posts:
HarryPotterFan436 · 11/08/2019 22:06

I couldn't understand that either. There was definitely something about him. He was one weird character.

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 22:08

Yep. I really loved the book but just found the ending too rushed and neat. Sort of oh everything's ok now they had all found each other. Just generally needed a bit more depth to it.

OP posts:
HarryPotterFan436 · 11/08/2019 22:09

Massive spoiler here...

The bit where he was talking about pulling the bones apart on the roof and putting them in a bag made my stomach churn. I cant imagine how anyone could talk about that so matter of factly.

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 22:11

Yes but also how had her body not been found before? Another plot hole that was too neatly tied up.

OP posts:
HarryPotterFan436 · 11/08/2019 22:13

Yes I wondered that as surely the police would have conducted a thorough search of the house and grounds. It seems unlikely they wouldn't have found it as it doesnt seem to have been that well hidden.

Namechange3007 · 11/08/2019 22:16

I also thought Lucy would have a different name and that wouldn't be her real name as she kept implying that. And wanted more detail about how Birdie and David took over the house and what they did.

OP posts:
Saucery · 12/08/2019 06:38

As with her other thrillers I think the characterisation is so strong you kind of get swept past the dodgy plot bits. It suffered a bit from too many unreliable narrators and ‘oops! And then she/he was dead!’ twists but it still knocks spots off other books in the genre.
Just a smidge more polish needed with the pacing of the plots? Not that I wouldn’t buy them as soon as they come out, so why not finish them after a couple of large vodkas, as she says in the Afterword Grin

delilabell · 16/08/2019 10:30

Was Henry going to go and drug phin again?

rosegoldwatcher · 17/08/2019 14:50

Have just finished it. (Another one got in the way - had to read one of the books on which Deep Water is based.)
Really liked this one. I was, however, all geared up for a final twist - the house money disappearing.
Alex Marwood's new one has a similar theme of children being warped by isolation from the real world.
