What's she like?

Yes, read the first one. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Read her second novel which I liked but not as much as the first. She has now released a third which is on my wish list. I’ll probably take it away with me.

Yes. Loved her first one.

LoisEinhorn · 28/06/2019 16:44

I loved I See You and I've just this second finished Let Me Lie, which brought me here.
I wanted to see what other people thought of the ending but that would spoil it for everyone lol

imarocketman50 · 28/06/2019 16:46

I've read I Let You Go, I See You and Let Me Lie. Let Me Lie wasnt as good as the other two, those had me gasping out loud. Got her new one waiting to be read.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/06/2019 16:48

I liked her first one, the second was good untill the end when it all got a bit silly.
Not sure I'll bother with the new one.
Lisa Jewell is similar but much better.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/06/2019 16:50

Oh, I've missed out, "I see you".
Let me lie is the one I found silly at the end.

Thanks for your responses Gin "Trebles all round" as they say Wink

What is her writing like? Are her books profound/thought provoking or they are a light read? Can you tell me what other writers she's like? Does she tackle hard questions?

Sorry, I should have been more specific!

Jux her first three are crime with a big plot twist part way through she was a police officer. Her fourth has just been released and is apparently about parents disagreeing about treatment for their seriously ill child (I haven't read it). Her own son was seriously ill several years ago and her and her husband were told they had to agree on what to do and she wondered at the time what would happen if they didn't agree.

I read I See You. I thought it was pretty bad although it was a page-turner. Pedestrian writing and a "twist" at the end which I found stupid. In my opinion, there are much better crime writers out there -Kate Atkinson, Susan Hill, Sophie Hannah. If you want a light read, it's probably fine.

Jux · 04/07/2019 15:05

Dexra, I have tons of light reading and billions of crime novels. Mackintosh doesn't sound like what I'm looking for at the moment - though she could be another time.

Thank you all for your input.

I used to love authors like Balzac, but my books have been stuck in boxes for 20+ years as dh always hates whatever shelving I suggest so they've been subsumed by life!

I'm after a proper, rich author who will really make me think. Heavy reading, I suppose.
