Has anyone read this? I am about 20% in and it is starting to take shape but not my usual choice at all and wondering what other people thought of it...

It took me ages to read, I think I would have loved it more if I had read it faster as less confused by who he was each time. However I did like it and have recommended it to others.

RiojaHaze · 09/06/2019 14:59

I found it a little hard going at times but persevered and wouldn't say I loved it, but enjoyed it.

Hippychickster · 09/06/2019 15:05

I absolutely loved it!!! Thought it was soooo clever and could imagine the author having hundreds of post its around him to keep track. We read it for book club and everyone loved it.

I wanted to read it again the minute I finished to try and get it even clearer in my head.

Pashazade · 09/06/2019 15:16

I enjoyed it. It was nicely different. But I agree with PP that it's probably best to keep going with it and not leave long between sittings as the character situation gets more complex.

ZenNudist · 09/06/2019 15:18

I gave up. Found it really boring.

springgreensunshine · 09/06/2019 15:22

I loved the first 2/3 maybe then got bored. I just wished someone would tell me the answer rather than have to go through any more days of him waking up in some random body.
Maybe I'm just not clever enough to keep all the clues straight in my head.

Broondug · 09/06/2019 15:33

Just finished this. Started off great but I found it really confusing. Finished it, wasn’t the best or worst book I’ve ever read.

Iamblossom · 09/06/2019 15:55

Hmm thanks will persevere for a bit...hate giving up on books

mum2jakie · 09/06/2019 15:57

I don't think it was quite as clever as the author thought it was. I found it all a bit tedious and by the end couldn't really give a shit about who was responsible for what! Not one that I'd want to re-read.

HerondaleDucks · 09/06/2019 15:58

I had to persevere with it up to about 60% through and then the end totally gripped me and I loved it. If I hadn't persevered though I would of said it was really dry and confusing.
It's a slow burner but its end makes up for it.

Herocomplex · 09/06/2019 16:41

I read it a little while ago and enjoyed aspects of it. I couldn’t get to grips with the murderous footman character. I understood what he was ‘for’ in the plot, but I didn’t understand his reason for being there in the final analysis.
Don’t want to encourage spoilers though...

Me too

BuggaLugga · 09/06/2019 20:48

Started this on holiday, thought I was in for a treat initially, clever idea and atmospheric.
But it seemed like a lot of hard work for not that much reward ultimately. I thought it would come together more at the end.
Glad I read it on holiday no way I would have managed it with my ten mins tired reading before bed each night at home!

Iamblossom · 09/06/2019 21:37

Argh! Life is short can I really be arsed???

OP posts:
stroopwafelgirl · 09/06/2019 21:41

I wish I had given up. Pushed to the end, thinking it might get better - it didn’t.

Iamblossom · 09/06/2019 21:59

And the decider goes to @stroopwafelgirl

LadyLooLaa · 09/06/2019 22:03

I felt like it was an episode of black mirror. I found it hard going to begin with, then I enjoyed it, then finished it and felt it a bit depressing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/06/2019 22:04

I liked the idea but got increasingly bored and thought the ending was rubbish.

BuggaLugga · 09/06/2019 22:17

I thought it was going to have a really clever ending but it didn't particularly

Portulaca · 09/06/2019 23:41

I borrowed the audio book from the library and that really helped to keep up the pace and kerp me interested in the story. Otherwise I might have been tempted to give up. DH read it before me and said he found it hard to keep track of all the characters.

It is difficult and needs so much concentration. Wouldn't be tempted to re-read.

friedbeansandcheese · 09/06/2019 23:43

I didn’t finish it. I was drawn in by the USP and it didn’t work for me. Too repetitive and dull. Shame.

strawberrypenguin · 09/06/2019 23:44

I didn't love it and I wanted to! The end really annoyed me. Overall I don't think I really enjoyed it much.
