Can you help me find a book for my mum’s birthday?

It’s her birthday next month, she doesn’t get a lot of time to read so needs to be something she can get into fairly easily. Nothing too dark eg child abuse, no thrillers, nothing ‘edgy’, just a good, well written story. There’s so much hype for what turns out to be nothing interesting or special I find it hard to sift through. Any recommendations?

Everything I never told you, by Celeste Ng is one of the best books I’ve read in the last few months. Have recommended to a few people my age, (early 60s) and all have enjoyed it.

How old is she? I absolutely loved Viv Albertine's memoir "Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys" and I'd think it'd appeal to anyone late 40s through to 60s (basically anyone who remembers the 70s :) ).

I’m much the same age as your mum and really enjoyed ‘ I think I love you’ by Alison Pearson. It’s a novel set in the uk and the 70s about a now grown up David Cassiday fan.

I second Elizabeth is Missing. Also, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is a very enjoyable read.
