Non-gory thriller, or something absolutely unputdownable

I'd love to find a book I can't put down, it's been so long!

I'm looking for tension and excitement without gory murders or rape scenes. The last books I enjoyed like this were The Goldfinch (and actually, The Secret History) and the spy thriller, I Am Pilgrim. I hated The Girl With The Dragon tattoo and its ilk because of the violence against women.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Gillian McAllister?

I like Liane Moriarty for thriller type, non gory books.

A little life? Beautiful book, I had to put it down sometimes to get rid of the lump in my throat but it is a wonderful read.
I also like the Susan Hill Simon serrailler books, usually non gory police type mysteries.

great thank you! I loved Big Little Lies on TV, so I don't know why I hadn't thought of LM.

I've sent some samples of these to my kindle to have a try.

Just finished Gillespie and I which I enjoyed and I loved the books you've mentioned.

Also Liz Nugent's books!

Another vote for Gillespie and I. Also Aren't We Sisters by Patricia Ferguson

I'm on holiday always good to have some unputdownable books whilst away. Just finished "Our House" Louise Candlish, definitely tension and excitement without gore, loads of twists and turns would definitely recommend it. I'm starting "Snap" next which my husband has been reading and keeps telling me how good it is.

Read "Gillespie and I" a couple of years ago, I liked it a lot.

What about the novels of J K Rowling writing as Robert Galbraith? I've just finished the latest one and am missing the characters!

The Party by Elizabeth day is good .

The Dry by Jane Harper

I really liked 'The Hours before Dawn' by Celia Fremlin; also Patricia Highsmith's 'Ripley' series.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/09/2018 11:45

I would also recommend The Dry by Jane Harper

Its very atmospheric I love her second book too Force of Nature

Something about the outback it can be very eerie

I’ve just finished the latest Cormoran Strike - Lethal White and am bereft.

I’d also recommend Noah Hawley Before the Fall. And for something rather different Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel.

I highly recommend The Carrero Series by L.T.Marshall. They can be read as a whole series or as trilogies.
