Just finished this and loved it. But...ending felt a little rushed, unsatisfactory. Felt sorry for the father.

But, the prime numbers and informing the CIA bit - is that right?

I was slightly disappointed by this, mostly because i am an avid reader & this was the first book I'd picked up since ds arrived 3/12 ago. I too felt it finished far too quickly and almost easily, and that Dad had a bit of a raw deal. Still...any recommendations for my next big read??

If any of you are interested the Guardian Review (on Saturdays) has just this weekend started analysing this book "as a service to reading groups".

I believe they do 4 weeks and a senior lecturer from UCL is doing the analysis. Might be interesting.

I bought it as part of my "3 for 3" in Books etc yesterday. Not sure when I'll get round to reading as I bought 6 other books there and then 3 in Waterstones (the next 3 Ladies detective agency ones)

No, keepingmum, it was a bargain. You pay for 3 expensive hardback books and get 3 cheap paperbacks instead!

I think I bought nearly the same books, a couple of Alex McCall Smith and the Curious Incident, but I got them for dh's birthday so I can't read them until he's finished - so please don't tell us the ending...

Yorkiegirl - I loved windsinger too ... only read it to 'check it out' for ds1 of course (He's a very keen and able reader, but still quite young, so not everything he's capable of reading is suitable iyswim ... gives me a chance to read loads of children's literature anyway!)

Didn't find the two sequels as good ... have you read them?

The characters were so strong in the first one, I think the second one just didn't live up to that. In the third one I found the climax rather non-climactic, especially as the whole trilogy had been building up to it! Don't want to say too much and spoil it ... let me know what you think when you've read it.

Bought this the other day in ASDA, our local ASDA has started to do chart books at a very good price, £3.89 I think it was, can't wait to read it.

Oh that's what I was going to ask. Anyone know the difference between the adult version of this book and the children's version? Is it just the omission of the couple of swear words that are in the book or something more than that?

I've wondered about that too Demented. The swear words are not omitted in the children's version .. I've actually flicked through the children's edition in Ottakars to look for the differences, but can't spot any - except for the different cover!

I just picked this book out of my pile to read today, not started it yet but looking forwad to reading now having read these posts. I've just finished 'The Book of Proper Names' by Emelie Northomb which I thought was really excellent, lovely in a strange way.

Funny I was looking at the children's version on Amazon today and there are one or two complaints about the swearing in it, so agree it can't be that. Seems strange if it's just the cover. When I was thinking of buying the book someone on e-Bay had a copy of the child's version and was selling it unread as they said they had bought the children's version by accident, perhaps they thought they were different too.
