"Light reading" discussion group - any takers?

I know some people are finding "Possession" a bit heavy which I can understand. Also some people have previously said that they only want to read easy, fun stuff. So I thought I'd start a light reading discussion group (chick lit, beach reading etc. the sort of books you can buy at WHSmiths in railway stations and airports).

I will try and put a shortlist together in the next couple of days but if anyone has any recommendations feel free to add them here.

As a start I was going to suggest the book that came free with this month's Eve (Thomcat's Eve and I think there's already a thread about the book). The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.

In view of the fact that a lot of people seem to have read it already it's probably not ideal for a book group but throw in some more ideas!

popsycal - I'm going to have to disagree with you - I thought it was the most tedious book I'd battled with to the half-way point before giving up for a long, long time.

2nd Raf...barker books - only thing is I have just bought green grass at full price - and no mag...
Superior chick lit, made me chuckle...

Sonnet · 23/03/2004 13:21

Forgot to add - I've go so so many books lined up to read, so can't promise to join in although I'd love to....But will definatly take the recommendations and add to my "to read book collection".
I am currently reading the Quincoux (spelling) after a reccomendation on here, alos have possession lined up to read too but was too taken up with Quincoux to put aside to read possession.....

Sonnet · 23/03/2004 13:27

Could recommend the following 2 books as "superior Chic lit" ( I do so Love that expression!!)
A Class Apart - Diana Appleyard
Out of Love - Diana Appleyard

I think we ought to go with one of the free ones or ones with a mag.
don't know about anyone else but i've bought a few books that i thought were going to be chosen only to find add to that the p&p and it becomes an expensive hobby

it seems sonnett may hve done this too (possession)
i have the red rtent and owen meany.

My final vote goes to GReen Grass

Mummysurfer · 23/03/2004 13:30

sorry - take out 'only to find'- fingers & brain not working co-operatively

bbensley · 23/03/2004 14:26

Popsycal, I agree with you. Couldn't put it down. I think a free book would be a good idea for starters, I'm a Rafaella Barker fan so Green Grass gets my vote. I will also do as Sonnet said and add books recommended on here to my reading list

Sonnet · 23/03/2004 14:40

Green Grass for me too....
when are you/"we" all planning to start - I've got Quincoux(sp) to get through first - only at p330.....
Suppose I could read green grass on the side - hmm yes I'll do that

Sonnet · 23/03/2004 14:41

sorry aboiut last post - thinking out loud as fingers tapping....

Evita · 24/03/2004 14:43

What's Green Grass all about then? I've never yet read anything known as 'chic lit', not sure how I'll find it ...

Freddiecat · 25/03/2004 13:55

OK then - this has been a bit confusing. Let's go with Green Grass and start the online discussion Monday 5th April.

Sorry about all the confusion - next time I'll pick a short list which people might not have read recently!

Just searched this thread out to se if a decision had been made.
Good - 'Green Grass'
it's still available free with family Circle mag.
Monday 5thApril - do we need to have finished it by then?
Who is joining in with this? How many? Lets count.

jampot · 31/03/2004 23:39

Can I join?

bbensley · 01/04/2004 09:19

I got the book so count me in

SoupDragon · 01/04/2004 09:24

I'm reading the book (had to put on a disguise to purchase Family Circle!). May or may not contribute to the discussion

Freddiecat · 01/04/2004 16:45

No don't need to finish by Monday 5th at all! It's just to say we'll but a stop on online discussions before then so that if some people have not had a chance to get it yet then there are no plot spoilers.
