Hiatus hernia and Acid reflux anyone?

Hi I have a hiatus hernia and acid reflux and I'm on Omeprazole. I've lost weight with WW before - several times. I've gained weight since I've had the stomach issues and want to try getting it off and wonder if anyone else has a HH or acid reflux and is doing WW. How do you get on with the diet and does it help your symptoms?

Me And stage 3 Barret's Mucousa as well. It is horrible.
I don't eat wheat or dairy and never eat after 6.30 pm. I eat my main meal at lunch time. I take gertac X3 a day and peridot (sp?) As well as gaviscon. Weight comes off slowly but I do small meals and more snacks

It's the worst. I previously had a stomach ulcer (years ago as a teenager). It's reared it's ugly head since I started dieting this year and stress. Back on omeprazole again now.

So I guess, my diet has affected it. The dr said it shouldn't deter me from continuing the weight loss but I need to keep on top of my medication, eat regularly and avoid acidic foods. Lost 2 and a half stone with WW so far so I would recommend it still.

Thanks @Harp1977 @torthecatlady sorry to to hear about your problems with your health. I got diagnosed in February with inflammation and an ulcer in the oesophagus and a HH and acid reflux. I'm still finding my way with eating and triggers and getting the dosage of Omeprazole right.

last week, I saw my gp and she told me that because I've had an ulcer I should stay on a low dose Omeprazole and not try reducing or coming off them. I asked about losing weight as I've put on 2st in the past year and she suggested WW. I've lost before on WW and i think it will fit with the advice I got from the hospital when I was diagnosed, which is :
Eat smaller more regular meals
Don’t miss meals
Chew properly and relax
Dont drink with a meal
Don’t eat heavy large meals
Don’t eat highly spiced acidic foods
Keep a food and symptom diary
Reduce weight if need to
So I'll give it a go

@nellyitsme That's exactly the advice that I try to follow. I hope it works! I can refer you to WW if you like? We'd both get a month for free. I think it works out that your first month is free?

torthecatlady · 11/08/2019 22:41

This should be my referral link, although I've never actually referred anyone so hopefully it will work Grin

WW link

@nellyitsme Grin Hopefully it works for you! Just remember to stick to your dr's advice and if you feel any of the symptoms coming on eat something! There's plenty of support on the WW app too so that's definitely worth looking at. I'm on there under the same screen name and you're welcome to message if you need any advice Smile First tip is make sure you have plenty of zero point foods in the house for snacking.

nellyitsme · 11/08/2019 23:31

Thanks I'll look out for you @torthecatlady
