Anyone done Cambridge?

I have been on the Atkins diet for 6 or 7 weeks - its going ok and I have lost weight but its slow and is very two steps forward one step back. I haven't the patience to be losing 4lbs then putting 2 back on overnight etc...

My plan was to get closer to my goal weight then go back to Atkins as I now know how to eat without putting on weight.

So I had a session with a Cambridge counsellor and bought a load of products - I have had the tomato soup, porridge and cappuchino shakes and they are all foul. Vile!! I can bearley keep them down.

Before I go back to Atkins and write off the £50 I spent can anyone tell me whether there are any of these products that taste bearable?

I did cambridge few years back and unfortunately I found it just as awful! Would they consider swapping any of them for alternatives that you might prefer?

I am also on a meal replacement diet with a company called GoLower www.golower.co.uk they are LC, low GI and GL. Very tasty and filling.

Hope you manage to sort out your meals with Cambridge, it would be a shame to write off £50. However I would definitely recommend Go Lower as an alternative if it comes to that...

That's because you work for them though isn't it simmo? You and mel?

msboogie · 10/05/2010 22:55

here's your sister ! I stupidly bought 2 weeks worth of cambridge shakes ( much more than 50 £ though )and simply cannot stomach them either .I have chocolate and porridge ...........I had been doing low carb ( celebrity slim)the previous 2 weeks and have PUT ON 2 lbs after STARVING myself ! how depressing .
I'm not sure what to do now , force myself to just do the cambridge or what ?!

msboogie · 10/05/2010 23:26

I am asking myself the same question aoifaz - I keep thinking I can't do this and I want to go back to my lovely Atkins food...

msboogie · 10/05/2010 23:26

the porridge is the WORST THING!

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:29

I'm on the Cambridge, have been for 4 weeks (lost 1st 4lbs )

I can't stomach any of the soups, and unfortunately most of the shakes. I love the choc mint, chocolate and cappuccino (only with a teaspoon of coffee in it though!) and love most of the bars.

Why not give you consultant a ring and ask if you can sample some of the other flavours?

It really is worthwhile, if, and only if, you can stick to it. Otherwise you will be unnecessarily miserable.

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:29

Yy, the porridge is vile.

aoifaz · 10/05/2010 23:31

msboogie
I just had a look at some of the other thread on low carbing , and I am thinking maybe I should try again ,but with smaller portions and no nuts .( I think I went a bit overboard on nuts !My brother's wedding is in 4 weeks and I am in a complete PANIC now .I only have a stone to lose but it is just not moving at all.

msboogie · 10/05/2010 23:32

yup mermaidspam I am going to get some of the other flavours - once I find one or two that I can stand

msboogie · 10/05/2010 23:34

my sister's wedding is in 4 weeks and I need to lose stone too! (and the rest but lets be realistic)

I was doing ok on Atkins but like you was eating handfuls of brazil nuts towards the end of last week...

and as for the cheese!!

OP posts:
aoifaz · 10/05/2010 23:35

mermaid , I know I shouldn't have but I actually bought them from someone and so don't have a consultant . I wanted a quick fix for the wedding ( very bad I know !).I am just within the normal weight range so wouldn't have qualified to do it normally, but am a typical apple with a stone's worth of stomach fat that needs to go.
Is there anything I can do to the choc shake to make them palatable?

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:36

Ah, oops!

Have you tried adding coffee?
Do you find it too sweet already, or could you try adding a sweetener?

aoifaz · 10/05/2010 23:37

oh yes cheese was a major contender too !
so that's no cheese and no nuts .

aoifaz · 10/05/2010 23:38

mermaid
I might try coffee tomorrow actually and heat it up , thanks for the tip

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:40

Also, even though it isn't really advised, you can make muffins out of the shakes. You add a little water (to make it into cake-mix consistency) and microwave it for 30 secs, stir, then another 30 secs.

see link for other "recipes"

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:42

Oh yes, that's another thing, I have all the shakes hot, so they're more like having a cuppa than having to swallow down a vile cols smoothie ish concoction!

Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:42

cold, even

msboogie · 10/05/2010 23:46

I can't imagine they are any less awful hot..

OP posts:
Mermaidspam · 10/05/2010 23:50

Oh dear!
If you're finding them that bad, it may not be the diet for you msboogie!

gingernutlover · 11/05/2010 09:06

ms boogie - i have done cambridge a couple of times, I found the only things I can stomach are the cinnamon porridge and the tetra packs of ready made shakes. The toffee bars are also edible to me.

it does work well - but, and a big warning here, unless you change the way you eat afterwards it will go back on, and I find it much much harder to lose wieght now, so I do believe it affects your metabolism in some way.

wideratthehips · 11/05/2010 13:48

how about lighter life as an alternative? if you have a counsellor near you.

i really liked the shakes and the peanut bar was actually quite nice

gingernutlover · 11/05/2010 14:33

LL is £70 a week, might be worth it if the shakes are that much nicer?

wangle99 · 23/05/2010 07:49

i've been cambridge for 4 weeks and have lost 18lb. I agree some of the shakes are a taste to get accustomed to. Have you tried the cartons? The chocolate one I find really really lovely and has been a godsend to some people doing it. I'm lucky to really like most things.

Also I find with the shakes making them with hot water (as a previous poster said) but also make them weaker, this also seems to help.

I love the bars, (you can have them from week 3), the chocolate one is lurvely (in fact going to have 1/2 a one for breakfast in a mo!).

Dont give up if you can tolerate some of the shakes as it really does work!
