Help me decide: slimming world or low carb?

The low carb option is certainly appealing for a greedy bird. But surely it can't be healthy?

I've done weightwatchers in the past but I find the counting thing a PITA and the ready meals are absolutely minging.

So, what about slimming world? Is it easy to follow once you've learnt the rules?

I've just started doing no carbs after 4pm and its working really well for me.
I eat healthy and normal foods during the day. I have a snack of yoghurt and fruit around 4 and then have no carbs for dinner. I usually have fish or chicken with veg or just whatever everyone else is having but without the carbs and then nothing else.

I've just started and have lost 4lbs in my first week and don't feel deprived at all. I've even had the odd bit of cake with morning coffee.

Hadn't thought of doing the carb curfew thing - that's an idea...

I think I'm torn between knowing I should take it slowly, eat healthily and lose 1-2 lbs a week, versus the quick fix yoyo diet thing. I've changed my mind back and forth about five times today as to what to do.

If you think Low carb is appealing for a greedy bird - you should see Slimming World - That food you can literally eat your own weight in free foods and still loose weight

on a red day you can eat as much meat as you can eat (literally) and limited carbs then on a green day you can eat as much potatoes, rice, pasta as you can eat and limited meat.

You choose what day you are having and now there is an orange day where you can mix the two!

SW is easy, very easy and you are never hungry. I lost 2 stone 2 years ago and the first one I did within 6 weeks

Like I said you are NEVER hungry - that to me is a killer to any diet

Rafaelo · 11/04/2010 18:15

oooh, now that is sounding veeeeery attractive! Maybe its more realistic to do SW.

I would love a quick fix but it just doesn't work for me. I have lost and gained the same darned half a stone several times over the past year doing this.
I've decided that I have to follow a plan that I can stick to for as long as it takes and that I can switch back to if I need to. Fingers crossed!

Squidmission · 11/04/2010 18:19

Also SW didn't work for me either. I don't know why, it just didn't. I followed it correctly.

Rafaelo · 11/04/2010 18:21

Yes, I know you're right Squid. I was really liking the idea of dropping a stone in a week or whatever but it's just daft isn't it?

So is SW a food combining system? Like not having protein and carbs at the same time?

SW is fantastic and they now do a money back guaruntee, because anyone following it properly should lose weight.

I haven't tried it myself, because I'm veggie, but there's an Extra Easy plan now as well as red and green, where you can have the potatoes, pasta etc from a green day and the lean meat, fish etc from a red day together, as long as you have 1/3 of your plate full of veg, but you only get one health extra A (calcium) and B (fibre) instead of two of each.

You shouldn't be hungry on SW, I eat loads and I've lost 2.5st.

It's not a quick fix though, they don't work.

Rafaelo · 11/04/2010 19:57

OK, you've convinced me. I'm off to sign up...

slimming world all the way!! I lost 2stone last year, and then got pregnant!! My ds2 is now 12 weeks so i joined again last week, and lost 6pounds in my first week!! I love it

mindermummy · 14/04/2010 21:58

im thinking of poss starting sw myself....done ww for years and lost 2 stone,....but now stugling to count points all the time, and not loosing weight at all.

Can you all give me some ideas of what sort of things you would eat if ie its a red day.
or the green day.

what about alcohol? how does that add in? do love a drink at weekends!!thanks

amummy30 · 15/04/2010 08:35

well you're allowed between 5 and 15 sins a day so I tend to have as few as possible and t then have a good drink at the weekend (although not at the moment cus im breastfeeding) but you can carry sins over for no more than seven days.
im not really very good at red days, but i would have things like a stir fry with lots of chicken, steak and loads of veg, salad with lots of lean meat and cottage cheese, but the good thing is you can have as much ss you want no weighing and measuring, you can have a sandwich if you use your bread from healthy extras, green days i do veggie curry and rice, pasta with homemade sauces consisting of lots of chunky veg, spag bol made with quorn mince, homemade slimming world chips with beans and a fried egg(yummy) vegetable moussaka, frittata's which you can do on both really, risotto, vegetable curry, jacket potatos and fillings
I find i can adapt most things to suit me, but i do like lots of veggies, just wish i could have a nice bug slice of cheesecake at the end
