An Atkins/ low carb question

I am seriously thinking of going back to a low carb way of eating as thats the only way I have been able to lose weight successfully. The only thing I struggled with in the past is what I can drink. I usually drink about 5 cups tea in a day but I know milk has carbs in it. So, those of you that low carb, what do you drink?

I still drink skimmed milk in my tea. I have followed the Harcombe diet and loved it.

For the first 5 days there's no caffine, but after that I still had my morning cuppa and skinny latte (both decaff). Can't say it made any differnce. I did drink lots more chamomile tea and water. Not eating carbs later in the day made the biggest difference.

Low carbs definately works for me too.

In my 'Sunday Times GI eating plan' which I am sort of following it says half a pint of milk is fine a day in drinks but you would think of it as one of the sncaks that you allowed.

I am also drinking alot more water

BlueKangerooWonders · 13/12/2009 14:40

What about black tea? I've never had milk in it, but always drink it weaker than most. You'll get used to it very quickly.

defyinggravity · 13/12/2009 14:47

Yeah, I think I definitely need to up my 'water' intake. I must admit I have never had tea without milk but I'm willing to give it a go. Those of you on low carb eating plans, do you mind me asking how successful you've been?

i've been on mine for a week and whilst I have nt weighted myself my clothes are looser and I feel lighter with more eneergy.

Bread and butter and biscuits are my achilies heel so its just about finding alternatives to stuffing myself with that

Ohforfoxsake · 13/12/2009 14:52

I've got a magazine article explaining the Harcombe diet scanned. If you want me to email it to you, I'm happy to.

It was massively successful, and although the first 5 days are a detox and I felt dreadful on days 3/4, day 5 was worth it.

I liked it because it dealt with candida, which I realised was my particular problem. It banished my cravings for bread and cake, I was not longer bloated and had loads of energy.

There's a thread on here about it. I'll find it.

I think I do have some type of food intolerance as I always have a 'bubbly' type tummy after eating potatoes and pasta, and I remember when I did Atkins, my stomach was always fine. That's another reason for thinking about changing my eating habits.

i think it's important to keep taking some dairy for calcium and vits so i don't think a bit of milk would be an issue.

but then again, i've only ever done the more healthy low-carb diets not pure no-carb which i think is a bit unhealthy to be honest.

Are you all planning to stick with low carb over Christmas?

Good luck!

I'm doing Go Lower which is low carb and I drink black decaf coffee and lots of water. I think on this diet you are allowed one hot drink a day with a splash of milk.
