Hello. Thought I would start by saying I have NEVER so much as considered a diet before in my life but I am now really looking into doing slimming world. It looks like something I can do, which i have never thought before with other diets.

I am pregnant, so not worried about LOOSING weight to start with, just stopping this unhealthy eating and constant weight gain everywhere! I am 30+ weeks though so will soon be looking to loose the baby weight. We are going on holiday in September abroad and i will (even with some weight loss) be the biggest in our big group of friends and family that are all going together. But I don't want my holiday ruined by me covering up and feeling uncomfortable.

ANYWAY. I have some questions about SW.....

  • What is the difference between this extra easy and red and green? Are they part of the same plan? Or do you choose to do one or the other?
  • Do I actually need to join? We are quite skint TBH but also awful for spending money we can't afford on take aways . I have bought a magazine today and was thinking about just subscribing to that to make it cheaper?
  • Do you do a weekly meal planner or something?
  • Do you think I could make it work cooking one meal for everybody - me, fussy DH + 1 year old? Can you freeze lots of the meals? I like making my own "ready meals" in the freezer for lazy days.
  • Is it expensive buying all the food for it?
  • A lot of the reciepes in the mag said they were not suitable for pregnancy or babies because of having partly cooked eggs - can you just adapt the reciepe? It was the food that appealed the most to me that had it in TBH! But I am pregant AND have baby to feed!
  • If pregnant, and then Breastfeeding, how do I make SW work for me? Do you have to adjust it at all?
  • Can somebody explain syns and allowances to me? I am so confused!

And if I wanted to go to classes, do you have to pay every week? Or can I say, go this week, then miss a few weeks, then go again etc and just pay for the weeks I go? Sorry if that is a silly question!

The more info I read, the more confused I am getting!

I keep seeing "from your allowance". Do you have to join for this?

If you do it online/post/groups, do you still pay the same amount? What do you get for your money?!?

Would REALLY be grateful of some help!

Hi,

I do slimming world from home, am not a member, but have been in the past so am using my old books.

You should look on ebay for the books as it is really handy to have something to refer to.

If you did join, you cant keep missing weeks otherwise you have to re-join and pay the new member fee again.

Maybe you could join, get all the info, and then not go back but do it from home?

SYNS: You can have between 5-15 of these a day. (The more weight you have to lose the more syns you can have). These are for foods that aren't FREE or HEALTHY EXTRAS ie. chocolate, butter, oil. You really do need thr book for these (get it off of ebay)... BUT.... a friend of mine was at their slimming world group last night and their consultant said that if you don't have your book to check syn values, then as a general guide 20 calories = 1 syn.

Also, even if you think you dont need your syns, you should eat them so that when your weight loss slows down, you will have something to cut out.

HEALTHY EXTRAS: When people talk about 'from your allowance' they mean your healthy extra allowance.

On red and green days you can have 2 A and 2 Bs.

As are dairy, so milk or cheese. Bs are fibre such as bread, cereals, and also the opposite food to the day you are n. So if you are on a green day you can have some meat as 1 of your B choices, and if you are on a red day you can have some potatoes or pasta as your B choice (not rice!!!).

On EXTRA EASY (it really is easy) you can only have 1 A and 1 B, but can combine red and green food together. You can also snackon red or green food, doesn't just have to be at meal times.

I think when you are pregnant and breastfeeding you are allowed more healthy extras.

I never do a weekly meal planner because ou don't have to cook 'diet' meals , we just eat the same but do things slightly differently ie. use frylight instead of cooking oil, cutting fat off food and grilling it.

Yes you can freeze food still: can make slimming world versions of bolognese, shepherds pie, lasagne, chilli, curry, whatever you eat.
Slimming world chips are good- parboil potatoes, then cut into chips and put in oven and spray with fry light.

Again, if you were cooking meals before (not buying ready meals from iceland- not saying this is bad, have done so when money is tight lol) then slimming world cooking is no different.

Also can snack on all fruit (though watch bananas) and most mullerlights all day long.

I might not have answered everything, or may not be too clear as am rushing this, but hope I've helped.

Am assuming you know wahat red and green days are:
RED- unlimited meat and fish, fruit and most veg but not peas.

GREEN- unlimited rice, pasta, potatoes, fruit and veg.

Can eat unlimited eggs both days- it is really just healthy eating and cooking from scratch.

Oh and re: the egg question- eating raw or undercooked eggs is not reccommended in pregnancy for everyone, not just those doing slimming world.

On slimming world you can eat pretty much anything- normal meals her eI'm not talking about takeaways- just make sure no fat/oil/ sugar etc.

Good luck.

Thank you, thats really helpful. I think I might join for a few weeks and see how I go. Do you get all the books etc when you join or do you have to pay extra for them?

I know that the egg thing is for all pregnant people, not SW, but what I meant is do you think I could just make sure the whole dish is thoughly cooked or something?

Hi, you get given the books when you join, you haven't gotta pay extra. Although there is one book that you can buy which is probably worrth paying for And that is the syns directory.

With the eggs, it should be fine,as long as you use lion quality eggs.
