Water retention and age

Hi all,
Just a quick question. I've been with Slimming World for nearly a year now and am delighted to have lost nearly 5 and a half stone.
One thing I've noticed, though, is that the week after I've ovulated, despite concerted efforts I can put on up to 4lbs in a week .
This trend is becoming more pronounced as the months go by.
Does water retention get worse as you get older? I'm 38.
I've tried all kinds of things - drinking more water, drinking less water, taking natural diuretics, nothing seems to have an effect, and, every month, the scales tip in the wrong direction. . Then I spend the rest of the month trying to lose it again so my weight just kind of hovers around the same mark.
Can anyone explain, sympathise or offer a remedy?
Ta!

Hi I just found this site and have been wondering this myself. Your post sounds exactly the same as my situation. I have lost just under 3 stone through Slimming World so I am within healthy weight range although ideally I would like to lose around 12lb more. In the past 3 months I have found it incredibly difficult especially in "star" week. It has never been a problem in the past and I had always found I at least lost half a pound but now I am putting on between 2 and 4lb like yourself and it is very depressing as it takes over a week to come back off. It is embarrassing to go to class as I am sure the consultant doesn't believe me when I say I have been 100% following the plan. I have tried cleansing teas, green tea and every supplement I know but nothing helps. My only thoughts are to continue eating healthy and try not let it get to you as long as overall each month you at least lose something as its better than giving up altogether.
