11kg down and look no different

I’ve managed to lose 11kg and am now 87kg…
I should be delighted but I don’t look or feel different, clothes fit the same and no one has noticed. Why would this be? Is there a tipping point where the hard work pays off other than just on the scales?

Averaging about 1200 calories a day.

Feeling rather despondent.

Thanks

I think you’re being too hard on yourself. You will be noticeable thinner and your clothes will look different. There is a lot of people that will pretend not to notice for their own reasons (generally not nice ones I’m afraid) Don’t let others make you feel deflated. The problem is when we are at our biggest we don’t feel like pulling out a tape measure so you have no real comparison. Wait till a good day when your in a positive mood and put on something you’ve not worn for a while, something special, I’m sure you’ll look better in it if your not looking for validation of what you’ve achieved. Also I find that video shows you better than photos. Please also remember that clothes are designed to look the same for multiple sizes nowadays. Congratulations by the way. You’ve done amazing.

What a really helpful and positive response. Thank you. I know exactly the dress to try on to see if I see a difference.

I have to admit I feel the same. I'm only 9lbs down though in comparison to your loss and I feel like I look no different. Yet just occasionally I catch a glimpse of myself out of the corner of my eye that looks different. And my pyjama bottoms are falling off 🤣 So I know I must be losing weight, I just can't see it yet.

But then that's not surprising, I didn't see the weight gain either. One of the reasons that against some really good advice out there, I now weigh daily because I'm a really bad judge by eye of how much weight I'm losing or gaining.

I saw my parents for the first time in 3 months last week. I even talked to them about weight. I must actually be nearer 12 lbs down since I last saw them. Nearly a stone and they didn't notice. Yet my partner was saying I was losing at 4lbs down. I think he's being nice but I love him for it.

I do remember though that when I successfully lost weight in my 30s (before perimenopause, thanks hormones!) I didn't really notice until I was 2 stone down but then I didn't totally notice until I tried on clothes in shops and suddenly clothes actually looked good on me. I tell you what, that day that first happened was a huge rush.

I also think there is a bit of "ok, what can I do to actually make myself feel good" as you're losing too. I'd stopped dying my hair and now have a stupid grey streak I've lived with for over a year. I've finally bought some dye and going to sort that next week. I was thinking about actually starting some kind of skin care regime too (I'm late 40s, it's like I skipped being a girl) and (gasp) possibly wearing make up! 🤣

Practice a bit of love for yourself. You are doing brilliantly.

Ohh I feel the same in some ways… I was around 100kgs and now 90kgs. But I’m also weight training and I have seen a difference in my body shape, people are not commenting as it’s been slowish and also I’m wearing the same baggy clothes! So I need to change that up. There is deffo a difference of sorts though.
