The danger zone: getting in after work

I’ve been trying to lose weight since Christmas and doing a pretty good job at eating less and healthily. I eat pretty well during the day, and then come home and prepare a healthy supper - all good. But the problem is that I always feel starving when I get in, and as I’m cooking I can’t stop myself snacking - slices of cheese, a couple of biscuits from an open packet, etc. It really feels like this time of day is sabotaging all my effort. I think the others in the house would be pretty unimpressed if I got rid of all the snacks. So how to resist the urge to snack after work?

Eat on the way home. A mini meal. A couple of boiled eggs will fill you up pretty effectively (unless you're on a train because everyone will hate you 😂)

Clean your teeth the moment you get home. Nothing is more unpleasant than eating with freshly cleaned teeth.

Oh, clean teeth is a good idea - as is an intentional snack before I get in. I hate eggs though. Any other suggestions of things that will keep me going till supper but not sabotage the diet?

Carrot or apple? And then mouthwash as soon as you get in and an early dinner. I'd need to be eating an actual meal within half an hour of getting in or I'll ruin it all.

You need to eat a healthy snack at 4pm. Hormones drop specifically for women, kidney function slows and metabolism takes a huge hit.

fruits, nuts, proteins to keep you going. I have personally found baby bell and apple to be my saviour! Then I think properly about dinner and prepare it without picking.

I snack on eggs too, but, I also roast a chicken and keep in the fridge for snacking/sandwiches etc. a couple of chunks of thigh/leg meat (with a little salt) slowly chewed usually fends of hunger until dinner. Or a small bowl of homemade soup if there is any in the fridge - warming and filling at this time of year.

It is all about have the right snacks there and ready to eat before picking up something else.

This is my worst time too! I've been having some Rivetas at work at around 5ish, but I still feel really famished when I step in the door. I immediately need to eat.
I usually start preparing/cooking my dinner as soon as I get in now, otherwise I could start snacking on whatever I can find

it Is not hunger, it is habit. Eat a green pear on your way home. Not a juicy one. A very hard, unripe one.
You need to cut the habit of pre-dinner eating and you can do it.

Drink a whole pint of water before you even consider eating.

My go too right now, for those times when my belly think my throat's been cut are Peters Yard sourdough crackers.

I also hate ryveta and the ilk, but these are so thin and have a crunch like no other - and they are HUGE. I snap one into 4 bite size pieces, tea spoon of really good cottage cheese and a drip of hot honey . Seriously I eat 2 of those - 8 pieces - and it keeps me full till my next meal - low calorie, high protein , and I find them lush . Introduced a friend to them today and she agreed, wouldn't do a lunch but the after work munchies - hits the spot
