Struggling to shift some weight

cosyblankethome · 04/10/2025 06:47

I’d like to lose half a stone. It’s not coming off. I am 10.11 at the moment and 5’7. I am eating 1500 caries a day and weigh and measure everything down to the odd Diet Coke, coffee granules and oil. Typical day is

fage 0% yoghurt with raspberries, chia seeds and honey
mixed salad, tuna, light mayo and a whole meal pitta
apple or a boiled egg as a snack
Stirfry with rice or cauliflower rice

Other foods will be bacon medallions with scrambled egg on sour dough, chicken with veg and potatoes, beans on wholemeal toast etc.

I have stopped drinking. Haven’t had a drink in weeks. Was only ever a glass of wine or a gin on a Friday and Saturday anyway. I am walking between 10000 and 12000 steps a day. In 9 weeks I have lost 2.5lb.

The bottom line is I am eating better. My diet was I think quite good generally but the weekend would definitely see bigger portions and not making good choices with things like a take away or pizza. I am worried that cutting to say 1300 or 1400 a day will make me hungry. I can’t do anymore excerice as waiting on an MRI scan for a n ankle injury.

You're very slim already, whats the reason for wanting to lose more?

Im 5'6 and your weight, bit less, and my maintenence is less than 1500

I would also like to be around half a stone less but dont need to really.

I’m currently eating around 1200-1300 calories per day, prioritising protein (aiming for 120g, even if I don’t always get that much). Having enough protein keeps hunger at bay.

I’m shorter than you, but I would struggle to lose much if I was on 1500 a day.

Some of my clothes are tight around my middle. I have slim legs and carry all my weight from my boobs to my section scar. It is noticeable and I am just not happy with how I look or feel in my clothes. The excess weight has gone on since my accident. I may be slim on paper but I am definitely chubby looking.

Perhaps bring your daily calories down to 1400 and see how that goes. Sounds like you have a pretty good diet, prioritise protein as this will help fill you up more. But also make sure your having enough fats and carbs, you could look at something like 120g carbs and 45g fats (essential for females especially with hormone health) we need fats!
your body will also respond to high steps or high exercise day and you may find your weight may stick or increase slightly.
the last few KGS are always going to be a little more stubborn slower and harder to shift. What is your ideal finishing weight

Thanks. I think I will try 1400 a day and see if that at least kick starts some loss for me.

Thank you for helping. I’d like to be somewhere between 10 stone & 10.7. I used to be around the 10 stone mark but I am older now and I am well aware that 10 stone may be too much. I’d be content just to see some weight loss for now. Will try 1400 and lots of protein.

How old are you? Unfortunately the older we get, the lower our maintenance calories unfortunately…

Yes I know what you mean, a couple of pounds off for me is the difference between my work trousers fitting around the waist!!

I have a tummy overhang unless I get this half stone off.

LizTs1990 · 04/10/2025 07:22

No problem. Whatever you try you have to give it some time for your body to adapt and settle.
make sure you are getting decent sleep and plenty of water 3L minimum. Nail those basics! Good luck

I suspected you might be over 50. I am 60 and I would gain on 1400 calories.

It really is shit. 💐

I'm 53 and have found it impossible to lose weight, I'm tall so don't look fat, excercise a lot. But I have just started to drop by doing something i thought I didn't agree with... 2 meals a day and no nibbling anything in-between. Yes probably fasting, so eat at 11 and 6 ish but not religiously.
Dropped 3kg in 4 weeks.
