Excellent thread about fibre? Where has it gone??

Last week I joined in a really interesting thread about fibre supplements and it has vanished! Where has it gone? If the op from that thread sees this, please post!

I’ve been looking too! Shall we chat? I’m using my phone to log food, only focusing on protein and fibre. I have got some insulin powder, and already had flax and chia.

The other supplements mentioned were potato starch, psyllium husk, processed guar-gum, acacia and boabab (?).

No idea on the quantities.

ODFOx · 30/06/2025 08:21

I didn’t see the thread. I’ve swapped bread and pasta out for whole grain varieties and most of the time we’re replacing pasta altogether with pulses.
I use red lentils to thicken sauces and soups, green into mince dishes 50/50 with the red meat. Chickpeas or beans either as a base or alongside the meat in lots of sauce dishes.
bulgar wheat instead of couscous.
My gut is happier than it has been for years, and I’m steadily losing weight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/06/2025 09:20

@myplacevery weird, I was beginning to think I imagined it! There’s no trace of it even in my history, very odd. Completely vanished!

anyway, I have been having a shake daily of protein powder, frozen berries, soaked chia and I bought a fibre supplement on Amazon. I was having one scoop, now up to 2. I don’t think I’ll bother adding all the different fibre supplements that poster did, cost prohibitive for a start, but also this is working well for me. I’m having it at 9/10 am and genuinely not feeling hungry or snacky all day. I have also definitely noticed not a weight loss as such, but definitely not the big gains after a weekend that I was usually having. No other changes to my diet, so I am inclined to think it must be the fibre intake. I’m getting around 25-30 g a day now which is probably triple what I was

Thank you so much @thenewaveragebear1983 I’ve also been looking for this thread as I thought it looked interesting but forgot to save it. I think fibre might take over from protein in the ‘what we should be having more of’ stakes

myplace · 30/06/2025 11:45

That link takes us to a fibre supplement. I wonder if that’s why the thread was removed, basically an advert?

myplace · 30/06/2025 11:51

I’ve been reaching the NHS fibre recommendations since I started trying. I haven’t weighed since. My gut has been happy, and my morning visit acceptable 😆

I have still been snacking badly in the evenings, but not at all in the day. So maybe need to add another fibre boost before dinner to help that evening slump.

I’m having 5g chia/flax, weetabix and 10g inulin and collagen for breakfast. That’s 15g fibre to start the day.
I’ll have a chia/berry/inulin pudding type snack after dinner. See what happens.

Does anyone remember the FPlan diet in the 80s? I was too young to pay attention but it was on the bookshelf!

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 30/06/2025 12:00

I've been trying to increase my fibre intake for many years. Chia in water or pysllium husk on yogurt or in water are my daily additions. Both are cheap.

This time of year is much easier, with fresh berries and salads. I struggle with eating anything other than toast in the morning, but I've recently changed that to rye bread with sunflower seeds.

Coffee also helps a lot!

And keeping up the water intake is really crucial.

KPPlumbing · 30/06/2025 12:20

I eat high protein, high fibre, and feel fantastic and have lost weight and tightened up - alongside strength training too.
I add chia seeds to my Greek yoghurt in the morning, have lots of veg, and eat a lot of bulgur wheat.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/06/2025 14:24

@myplacemaybe, although i think we can post links if it’s not directly advertising our own business? It’s very odd for a thread to totally disappear without even a deletion message.

i’d been reading a lot about protein and fibre and how the protein won’t work to satiate your sportier without a good dose of fibre too. I am finding g it’s calming my overall food cravings, I tend to really crave sugar after a meal which I think is an insulin problem, however since upping my fibre intake I haven’t been. And I’m definitely less bloated

Yes we can definitely link to products. I think the OP may have had a side gig though 😆

Excellent constipation advice. The original thread was more about weight management and sugar levels.

dudsville · 30/06/2025 15:05

I'm hot and bored, and having read this thread I just did a deep dive into fibre. Thanks for the reminder!

Ah, see I increased fibre hoping I'd lose weight, but no, I still gained! But it helps with my constipation.

myplace · 02/07/2025 08:47

I’ve swapped oats for half my weetabix, to introduce variety.

So oats, weetabix, inulin and collagen for breakfast.

I’ve added psyllium husk with dinner.

I’m tracking protein and fibre.

Weigh day is Monday. I don’t mind if I stay the same. I’d be excited if I lost. I have dual targets, to lose weight and to manage cravings. The heat has made it really hard to judge!

suki1964 · 02/07/2025 09:08

Same as @ODFOx , I just make changes to what I eat - wholemeal instead of white, brown rice, and use pulses a lot more

I also use oat bran in my yoghurt - cheap as chips and very filling

Between upping the protein, fibre and veg, I rarely need anything extra. This week I have the grandchildren staying and of course there's picnics and days to the beach and ice creams and sweets and Im picking cos its there and my stomach is certainly letting me know its not happy :(

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2025 05:59

I thought I would update on my fibre experiment. For around 5 weeks now I have been having my protein shake with additional chia seeds and a measure of a soluble and insoluble fibre powder. I can honestly say that it is having a really positive effect on my weight loss. I have lost around 6lbs in that time, which considering I have been pretty much on a plateau or a yo-yo constantly so far this year I am really pleased with. I feel like my sugar cravings are really diminished, I am not constantly on the look out for sweet things. I feel full after my meals and have not been snacking. I really felt like I needed a boost to kickstart my weight loss again, I’m very close to target and I have just been losing and gaining the same few pounds all year, so this is a total game changer for me.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2025 06:01

Also, I think the next thing I’d like to add into my shake is a collagen supplement as I am hearing such good things about it for skin and health, if anyone has any recommendations?

OP posts:
myplace · 18/07/2025 06:08

There’s a thread on collagen, but I don’t know how to find it. My skim read of it suggested that marine and bovine collagen do different things, so you can alternate or mix them. Wellguard Bovine collagen on Amazon is ok and reasonable. It’s their ‘recommended’ one.

Well done! I fell off the band wagon when my bag of inulin ran out. I need to restart.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2025 06:32

@myplacei have just reordered mine. Plus a collagen powder. I recall taking collagen tablets once and them making me feel quite jittery so I hope this isn’t the same.

The powders are much more effective than the pills IMO.
