On it for October

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2024 19:55

July was excellent. August was questionable. September has been outright bloody awful and I'm now about 4lbs heavier and back over the stone bracket I fought so hard to get under.

I don't have lots to lose but I could lose 10lbs by Christmas and be at target. 4-5lbs in October would be amazing!

I need to sort out my nutrition, increase my protein and cut out empty stodgy calories and sugar. Lots of water. Better sleep. Keep
Up the exercise. But I just need to actually DO IT.

Anyone with me?

Me!

I haven’t weighed myself since the middle of June and am only going to weigh once a month. I think I’m about 10lbs over goal weight but will know for sure on Tuesday when I weigh.

Am 5’ 4” and mid June weighed 10s 6lbs. Would like to be comfortably below 10s. Have cut out the crap but allow myself whatever I want on a Saturday. I’m going trekking in Kyrgyzstan next summer so need to be fit for that- I cycle/row/do weights in the gym most days but need to keep the momentum up as in the run up to Christmas I tend to start to drop sessions and then it all goes horribly wrong…

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2024 17:34

I'm 5'7 and I think on 1st October I'll be 157lbs/ 11.3. In July I was 149 🤦‍♀️

@rogdmum i'm training for London marathon and I've always exercised. I find it really hard to balance my calories when I'm exercising a lot though. Everyone says not to eat back your exercise calories, but how exactly do you eat enough and still remain in a deficit to lose weight?

I think my strategy will have to be to have some lower and some higher calorie days, sort of a calorie cycling kind of method. So my overall average per day is eg 1500, but on some days I have 2000 and others I have 1200. It's hard to manage and takes more planning though.

Urgh I weighed in today at 157lbs/11stone 3. I still have 2 family birthdays this weekend 🤦‍♀️
I did drag myself out for a run but it was hard. Although my hip was ok, I'm feeling quite viral and just generally not on top form.

In preparation for my big October relaunch, I have ordered replacement vitamins as I was running low. I feel really run down and burnt out. I had another dreadful nights sleep (alcohol induced) and lay awake for ages. I am very tempted to get some nytol just to get a few really deep sleeps but I used to be quite dependent on them so I'd prefer not to risk it.

Me too. I need enough calories to be able to push myself when I’m exercising but obviously that means I’m eating more than I would if I were just watching my diet. However, I’ve also had a couple of times over the past few years when I’ve been off exercise due to injury for 2-3 months and what did I do? I comfort ate my way through each injury, feeling sorry for myself 🤦‍♀️

I’ll weigh myself tomorrow morning and see how close I am to my guess. I tried on my favourite Christmas dress and think I’m about 10lbs from fitting into it again.

Matt7392 · 30/09/2024 14:38

I’ll jump on this thread too if that’s ok team.

new here.

starting weight more than I’d care to admit haha but have piled on the weight at an exponential rate.

Do have my own post dedicated that I’ll use as a blog for me.

good luck

@rogdmum I find that I can stick to calories for a few days, then I just eat everything back and more. I ran 23k a few week ago and no joke, I reckon I ate about 6000 calories over the next 2 days. It's very frustrating. I've tried maximising protein, I eat fats, I eat good nutritious foods, but ultimately it seems to come down purely to calorie deficit and my body just seems to seek it out wherever I can. The only way seems to be increasing my calories but then that makes my weight loss achingly slow.

Anyway. Achingly slow is better than gaining I guess....

I weighed in this morning, admittedly after a coffee and a pint of water, but I was 11.4, 158lbs. Not good, I was 10.9 in July! So that will be my starting weight for October.

I've booked my gym sessions in for the week, first is tonight. Bootcamp in the pouring rain 😢 I'm now 2 weeks behind on my marathon plan but to be honest, my hip is painful and there is no point pushing myself to injury this early on. I still have 28 weeks.

@Matt7392 welcome, the more the merrier. What's your goal?

@thenewaveragebear1983 just to see the scale start to move in the right direction. As mentioned, I’ve never really ‘dieted’. I was naturally lean until my 30s and then BANG my metabolism didn’t metabolise any more and I’ve whacked a fair amount on by a combination of careless eating / office life and a lack of exercise to the point I’m unrecognisable from pre covid.

to lose a few lbs this month would be progress

rogdmum · 01/10/2024 07:35

Weighed myself this morning and am 10s 5lbs so pretty much exactly as I thought- I’d like to be around 9s 10lbs by Christmas (and then stay there!).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2024 08:32

1st October! I'm really glad to see the back of September to be honest, it's been a long month.

Today- full steam ahead.

B- ff Greek yoghurt with collagen powder and frozen fruit
L- leftover roast dinner
D- chicken curry with veg, no rice.

I always take a rest day on a Tuesday because I normally go to the office, the dog goes to daycare so she doesn't have a walk - it's a true rest day. However, I did bootcamp last night and my hip is hurting today, so I will try for a little 10 mins yoga stretch at lunchtime as I actually am not in the office, I'm wfh today.

Have a great day

I've had a really crappy start to the month. I just don't feel good, so tired, really irritable and miserable. I'm struggling to exercise because my hip is really painful, every time I think it's ok it then hurts again when I run on it, so I'm obviously actually injured and need to see a physio probably. Then because I can't run, I get grouchy, and feel even more miserable, then eat loads of sugary crap.

I tried on jeans today that used to fit me and look nice, and today they are so tight there's no way I could actually wear them out.

And to top it all off, I have been bitten by something and have had the most exquisite allergic reaction, my ankle looks red, sore and twice its normal size. So all in all, I'm thoroughly peed off and not 'on it' at all

But - I really want to feel better, so here's my new revised plan. I did fast 800 a few years back and got great results, but I've never gone back to it because it makes it very difficult to run. Well, I can't run anyway - so I figured do a 2 week proper try of fast 800, proper 800 calories, med style, high fat/low carb etc. and rest my hip properly, no running. Use the 2 weeks to do yoga and deep stretching and hopefully after 2 weeks will have both kickstarted my diet and rested my hip enough to pick up my training.

By way of balance and to stop this post being a total pity party, I have done 2 significant jobs today- one is take my light fittings down and wash them, total pita job but needed doing, and 2 us I have ordered my bathroom suite and units, and just have the last few bits to order now. Both things have been bugging me for weeks. Oh, and a nice man called Elliot cals and cleaned my oven.

Weighed in this morning, 157.6lbs. About a pound down this week, more by luck than judgement I believe. But anyway, we are where we are. Damage is done. Solution in place!

So today is day 1 of my new restarted restart.
Took the dog for a lovely walk, 7km in the countryside. Her longest walk yet I think. I'm going to do a little gentle 5km just to bid my farewell to running for 2 weeks.... (this is why I am injured 🙄 I always just do 1 more) and then spend the day doing useful things. Not cleaning as such, but some sorting. I need to put a load of stuff on vinted and water all my houseplants and just general things like that.

I also want to look for a really beautiful piece of Japanese botanical art (poster) for my bathroom renovations

I'll be cooking a yummy pulled pork and sweet potatoes for dinner.

First proper fast 800 day done. Ended up on 1000 cals and 60g carbs. So a good day really and although not quite 800, it's still half what I have previously been eating.

I was going to say everything was going well (except eating too much on my “I can eat whatever I want” Saturday and feeling a bit ill from it) until I put my back out after the gym this morning. All I did was bend over to pick something up from the floor and it spasmed. 😡 So unfortunately I am joining you with injury thenewaveragebear and will be avoiding the gym for the next few days at least. Of course I now just want to eat my way through this. 🙄

TeenLifeMum · 07/10/2024 23:40

Haha, I could have written the opening post. Started the diet well last week with a virus (maybe covid) that stopped me wanting to eat for 3 days, so I’ve given up with mfp (can’t get it to work for me) and paid up for Noom (which is what I used successfully before). Need to get back under the 12s again then keep going!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2024 20:22

Good day today. I have gone over my 800 calorie goal, and had more carbs today, but as it was my office day I felt I needed to make it a bit easier on myself to avoid my usual Tuesday crash. It worked! I came home and had a big bowl of veg soup. I changed my dinner plan and had a beef burger with cheese and salad. It's weird, I feel hungry but not overwhelmingly so, and I don't really want anything specific so I've not had any evening nibbles.

The fast 800 book says to weigh every day, I did weigh this morning and I had had a loss but obviously this is only water weight so I don't count it as an official weigh in.

I'm planned for tomorrow. I do normally go to bootcamp on Wednesday morning but the forecast is abysmal so I'll probably not, but will do a home workout after work and walk the dog.
