When does Mounjaro kick in? šŸ¤”

Good morning all,

just that really. I took my first dose (2.5) 24 hours ago and I’m still very very hungry and tummy grumbling and still wanting to eat quite a bit.

I'm worried it’s not going to work for me. 😭

for reference I want to lose 2 stone x

Wondering the exact same thing! First dose yesterday....been super hungry all day.

Cerialkiller · 08/06/2024 19:22

Some people (like me) will feel effects within hours some not until higher doses, so weeks in. I don't know if any research has been done on the difference.

The drug builds up in your system for each dose. The peak after each jab seems to be day 3 when you will get the most side effects/suppression that week so hold on.

Why not join us on the continuing mounjaro thread? We are up to thread 12 now. Lots of people doing for months on there.

Cerialkiller · 08/06/2024 19:24

The 2.5 dose is the titration dose so it's mainly a vehicle to get your body used to the drug. Some people are sensitive to it even then. I think the effective doses that have been studied start at 5mg.

ImPunbelievable · 08/06/2024 19:50

This is why people really need to read and do research before they start injecting themselves with drugs.

You have taken a starting dose.

A 'therapeutic' dose (one which has the desired effects you're looking for) is 15mg

Some people will feel the effects sooner than 15, but you shouldn't expect that. You should be prepared to slowly titrate up to 15mg as prescribed before you assess if it's working or not

Hi
I did do my research and from that there were lots of people saying they had effects of the drug from a few hours in.
hence why I wanted opinions from people on the drug.

I will just have to wait to see if it kicks In

It's from when you get to 5mg. Good luck!

Thanks @Cerialkiller that makes sense and I also read this, so I hope in the next few weeks I’ll feel the effects.
its causing anxiety that I’ve spent money on something that might not work for me. Especially as so many ppl have said it’s a miracle and they felt their appetite suppressed within hours

OP posts:
Pinkbendyman · 08/06/2024 21:36

As @Cerialkiller has said, get yourself on the ā€˜continuing MJ’ thread 12. It’s so supportive and there’s loads of helpful advice from people who’ve been on MJ a lot longer.

The effects were noticeable with me within hours of the first 2.5mg, but as previous PP have said, it’s different for everyone and more effective once you start the therapeutic strengths.

Good luck!

LaurieFairyCake · 08/06/2024 21:36

It's clearly different for everyone. I'm 6 days into 2.5mg and haven't been hungry all week until today.

Everyone is different Flowers just keep going until you get to 'your dose'

It's too early to think that yet. It is important to remember that it isn't a wonder drug. It 'helps' that's all. You still need to make good choices. I was one of the ones who had early effectiveness. I felt like you do after Christmas dinner, too full to eat anything, I ate nothing that first day. I've never had that effect a second time.

I'm 6 weeks in and I still get hungry most days, the main difference is that the 'food noise' is definitely suppressed most of the time. The hunger is physical rather then mental iyswim. Lots of people find that they lose weight in the first week regardless, they just don't realise they are eating less, cravings have reduced etc.

I would encourage you to use this time to focus on eating well, nutrition, staying hydrated, etc. This will make the drug more effective and prepare yourself for a longer term change and eventually coming off.

From what i have seen of the studies, the only group who didn't lose weight were the ones who dropped out due to side effects. Give it a chance. I think we are keyed to believe that the early parts of a 'diet' should give us the biggest losses but from other posters there is often a bump when the dose jumps up and sometime you find your happy dose and then sit with that for months.

spuddy4 · 09/06/2024 07:47

I'm on my 2nd dose of 5mg and I've never had suppression like some people. I've got a lot to lose, 6 stone, and thought it would come off fast but it hasn't.

I've lost 12lb in 6 weeks which obviously I'm happy about but when you are reading about others losing over a stone in the first month it's hard not to feel disappointed.

I know everyone says 2.5mg and 5mg are supposed to be the doses that get your body used to the drug but it seems some people do well on those doses and others don't.

I have noticed that I can't eat as much because I don't want it but I do still feel hungry at times and I'm hoping that 7.5mg will be the magic number for me.

ObsidianTree · 09/06/2024 07:59

Some people feel effects straight away, but I would say at least 50% need to be on higher doses. Maybe higher than that. It took me until I got a few doses into 5mg to feel the effects. That did wear off after a month and a half on 5mg. Then was ready for 7.5mg. 7.5mg had more of an effect on me.

Some people still don't feel like 7.5mg works and want to go up to 10mg and beyond. Everyone is different and gets affected by the drug in different ways. Some might not feel it's full benefits until they get to 15mg.

So basically, give it time, trust the process. There is probably 95% chance you will get there eventually.

Where is everyone ordering from? Are some pens likely to not be genuine? As the difference in price between some websites and Boots is considerable.

Oblomov24 · 09/06/2024 08:35

Reading with interest. Might join one of the threads.

Have a look at the Mounjaro threads. Lots and lots of information there.

Generally most of the online pharmacies can be trusted, but some are new and untested. Listed on the main Mounjaro thread are some trusted well used providers.

Zava medical is a good one to order from at the moment. They seem to be one of the cheapest long term. They are also the provider Asda use for their Mounjaro service. So might as well buy from the source as it's cheaper than Asda! Zava also have a referral code that gets you 15% off your first order.

Obviously if you feel safer with a well known provider, the Asda is a good option. Cheaper than Boots and Superdrug anyway.

If you want a referral code, there are loads on the main mounjaro thread or I can give you mine 😊

@ObsidianTree thank you I'll look for it and placemark. I'm still dithering on whether I should or not. Not sure why since I used to buy Orlistat online, and while cheaper, it wasn't THAT cheap either .

Have a good read of the threads and info on MJ before deciding. There are 12 threads now so a lot to read through! But I think most people that read them end up biting the bullet and going for it!

We all think it's too expensive initially before deciding to do it, but then when on it you realise it's no more expensive than what you spend on takeaway / wine /snacks a week! (Which I don't do anymore by the way!)

I know some post are well meaning but I find it so patronising šŸ™„

I don’t think it’s a wonder drug, I never said that and if I implied it i didn’t mean to.
all I wanted to know was when the drug kicks in as I haven’t been anything but starving since I took it. It’s helpful to know that for some posters it hasn’t worked or I need a higher dosage.

people are conflating healthy eating with mounjarvo.
thats not what I was asking šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Mine really kicked in yesterday. I took first dose Friday same as you. Thought it wasn't working as I was hungry all day Saturday but on Sunday...no appetite at all, same today. Hope you've had a similar improvement.

BusyMummy001 · 10/06/2024 22:11

Think I read on another thread that it can take up to 72 hrs for your body to respond (but some people are more responsive, and I guess there may be a little of the placebo effect). Hang in there it does work, and please do pop over to the continuing mounjaro thread/12. Loads of us over there.

dottyp0104 · 10/06/2024 22:21

@Bluescloud hang in there. I'm on 7.5mg now but I felt exactly the same when I first started. Thought it wasn't working for me as was reading all the 'instant results' comments.
You will gradually notice it over week 1 but will reallly kick in by week 2.
I don't follow a specific diet as I want to learn good habits for coming off in future, but you will get to the stage you struggle to finish 2 slice of toast. I eat what rest of family do.... just a whole lot less x

HazelJoker · 14/07/2024 09:48

I'm 3 days into week 2 mounjaro.
5.5lb down first week with nil side effects. This week I'm struggling to get the water down ..and I think I feel hungry more..but struggling to eat 12..14oo cals. But onwards n upwards...
