Just been listening to Tim Spector on Desert Island Discs, the man who started the Zoe plan.

Sounds very interesting but expensive I think !

Anyone had positive experiences with Zoe?

I’ve just signed up and expecting my test kit to dispatch any time. App still says it’s being prepared…

MonkeyTennis34 · 10/04/2024 21:00

What do you get and how much does it costs?
It looks really good.

Mine has just been dispatched but you get a continuous blood monitor that lasts two weeks, a blood test kit and a stool sample kit plus the test cookies you have to eat for the tests. You send them back and they send results telling you how your response to sugars and fats and how healthy your gut biome is. Then on the app foods are rated out of 100 with you aiming for as high scores as possible when logging foods. Test kit is £300 but you can get referral codes from existing clients (assume I will get one to give once I’ve started). My referral code gave me 10% off the kit and 10% off the app subscription that you start paying after your results come back. I signed up for 12 months but you can just do a month, four months etc. cheaper per month the longer you sign up for. You can do the online quiz for free and get the details.

Thanks Crazydonkeylady
How much is the monthly cost?

I don’t know if you have committed yet. But I have to say in just over a month in. I would NOT recommend. The level of so called “personalised” support is below disappointing. If you find you need to increase fibre for example it might keep urging you to add certain foodstuffs to pretty much every meal (I might be turning into a pumpkin or an almond shortly!) As it’s all done by A1, the “mentor” you have can give only generic support eg in my case. “Why is my gut biome so poor when I’ve eaten way over 30 plants a week for 20 years?” Answer. “Stress. Have you considered taking up yoga or meditation?” (Never thought of that no!!) They can’t look at individual issues. It’s generic. Added to that the central support is poor, frustrating, and I’m sadly very upset because I guess I signed up to Mr Spector. It’s very, very expensive for what it is. The monitor stage is interesting. But my GP is fuming as he’s getting loads of people coming in worrying about stuff he doesn’t believe they need to.

In conclusion. In my experience. It’s an expensive, time consuming approach to diet, which could lead to obsessing over issues you can’t work out how to sort (and may not need to!) AND if you are a worrier it might not be a good Avenue to pursue because the level of support is frankly awful.

It is expensive, that’s for sure. The test results might be interesting but in my case they only confirmed what I already knew. I’ve been working on my gut microbiome for many years so that’s reasonably good. my blood fat response was also fine. My blood sugar response is very poor. I was already well aware of just by self-observation but it was interesting to see just how bad it was especially compared to dh when we ate the same things.
wrt the diet recommendations and scoring; the recommended stuff is always the same loads of veg, whole food and cut out refined/processed/sugar. Not groundbreaking by any extent.
dh loved the points system and lost a couple of stone following it religiously (but then gained it back and some). I was already a bit pissed off by the whole thing because of the lack of insight vs the marketing hype and I was already eating predominantly the recommended stuff anyway, so it didn’t really help me much.
the podcasts and emails give you a lot of good free info tho.

So I’ve been on it for about 6 weeks now. I like it. The food suggestions and recipes in the app suit me as a pescatarian who loves beans and pulses. It may be harder for meat eaters to score well I think. I’ve lost a few pounds and two inches from my waist and my apron belly fat has gone down a lot. My size in trousers has gone down one full size so I’m wearing the stuff I hadn’t taken the labels off in the wardrobe. This is odd though as the scales have literally only shifted about 3 lbs down. If anyone does want 10% off testing and subscription this is my link. If used I will get one free month I believe:

Yes, I still use it six months on and feel much healthier for it. I love planning my meals searching the recipes on the app. You can use my code for 10% off joining fee and subscription if you fancy trying it for yourself.
