Diet for Summer Challenge 2024

bigdecisionstomake · 08/01/2024 07:48

This is a continuation of the previous Diet for Christmas and Diet for Summer Challenges started by myself, @OhFatty and @Dashel

It is open to everyone, whether you have a lot to lose, just a small amount to go or you're at target but facing the enormous challenge of maintaining your loss ongoing.

Your target doesn't need to be summer - you can set if for as soon or as late as you like. There are no rules other than being supportive and cheering each other on. Occasional kicks up the bum are available as and when requested.

Hopefully previous members of these threads will join us again and new members are always welcome.

I will update shortly with my start point for this challenge.

I'm definitely at that beginning of the diet stage again ... weeing constantly! If I lose any weight tomorrow it'll be water weight but I'm actually fine with that! Nice to feel a little less bloated 😊

bigdecisionstomake · 20/09/2024 05:51

Morning all

Very early one from me as I've got an incredibly busy last full day at work today.

@Gemzee I hope all that weeing leads to a loss for you on the scales this morning - keeping everything crossed for you 😃

I had a drop on the scales back down to 9st 11.2lb yesterday but due to work pressures didn't have time to fit in a workout. Today is the same sadly. I was expecting a gain this morning despite my food being good just because when I don't exercise I think I build up a bit of a glycogen store which adds weight due to the water it binds to.

In actual fact I had a STS which I think was because it was quite an active day yesterday and I managed 8.5k steps even without any formal exercise. I'm happy overall with that.

The dream of being in the 9st 10 something bracket is fading as I can feel myself getting into holiday mode and will probably have a glass of wine tonight - it's been a really long week and I feel like I deserve it 😆Going to try to stay strong with food though so as not to undo all the good work over the last couple of months.

I will be really glad to see the weekend, for more than one reason 😎

Happy Friday everyone.

I'm really upset, I put on a pound 😭

I've only been dieting Monday - Thurs but I've had less than 1200cals a day, done a 30min workout each day and kept to 10-12k steps each day!
However, I am on my period and have probably had too many carbs and too much salt even though I've been within cals. I have to put a positive spin on it and not spiral over the weekend.
Going out today to buy some veggies and plan some healthy meals. Determined to come here next Friday with a loss!
Have a great weekend all!

bigdecisionstomake · 21/09/2024 08:43

Morning all

So sorry to hear that @Gemzee 😢One of the joyful benefits of peri-menopause and menopause is that your metabolism slows down so it is likely that this is the last hangover from the over indulgences of last weekend. Your period won't help either. Keep strong and eating clean and it will show on the scales soon. You've got this 💪

I fell off the wagon yesterday - I'm really cross with myself. I'd eaten well and been very active all day but then a wave of tiredness hit me late afternoon and I started munching a bag of marshmallows (random!) and then some chocolate and then two glasses of wine with my evening meal, then more chocolate....

The scales have bounced up to 9st 11.7lb this morning. I suppose it could have been worse but could also so easily have been avoided. To add to the downer my hip is the sorest it's even been this morning, I think I must have done something to it yesterday with all the running around, which means no exercise at all, not even walking today.

At least it's the weekend. I've got loads to do but am going to try to approach everything in a measured fashion so as not to aggravate the hip any further.

Have good days all and hope you're fairing better than me today 🙂

Morning all

Last post pre-holiday from me. I had a much better day yesterday 😃My hip gradually started to feel better again, I ate pretty well and I was active doing all the running around last minute jobs that need doing before going away.

The scales have dropped to 9st 11.3lb this morning. So not quite the 9st 10s I was hoping for but so close and a result that I am really happy with.

It definitely feels like the effort has been worth it and I have packed 5 bikinis that I'm going to be happy and confident to wear.

I fake tanned yesterday but underneath that is a little warm glow that comes from knowing how much we have all supported each other over the last nine months. I don't think I would have been here, pretty much at goal, without you all cheering me on so a huge thank you to you all and I will drink a toast to the 'Diet for Summer' challengers while I'm away 🍹

Maybe a Christmas challenge when I get back? But in the meantime please keep posting on this thread to keep each other accountable.

Have a great couple of weeks all 😎

Enjoy your holiday @bigdecisionstomake and wear those bikinis with pride! You've been so committed to the diet & thread- thank you for keeping us all going 🥂

I've bounced up to 9.10 today and it's annoyed me! I am uncomfortable with bloat so hoping it's just retention and comes down soon. Clothes shopping later this week and I hate it at the best of times!

Gemzee · 27/09/2024 07:11

Hi all! Finally a loss, 2lbs gone this week. 3lbs to go until my first goal and I'd really like to lose 1lb a week (my scales only show to the pound not 1/2 or 1/4 unfortunately).
Weekends are hard.
Have a good one all!
Hope you're enjoying your holiday @bigdecisionstomake 😊

Scottishskifun · 28/09/2024 20:01

I hope you are having an amazing holiday @bigdecisionstomake

Awesome news @Gemzee definitely agree weekends are hard!
I'm definitely pretty stagnant moving around by half a pound either way (it's within a day so more cycle and salt related and is also reminding me why I don't like weighing daily) but I'm still sticking in the high 9s so although I'm not really dropping I'm not going the other way either

Gemzee · 04/10/2024 07:34

Another 2lbs gone 🎉 Feeling much better in myself, was so worried I was heading back to where I was in Jan 23 (over 1.5 stone heavier!).
Have a good weekend all 😊

Dashel · 06/10/2024 19:12

Sorry I disappeared again. Lots of lemons but we ended up booking a last minute week in Malta and dashing off.

with everything going on there has been lots of comfort eating and drinking and I really need to get my shit together.

Hope you have an amazing holiday @bigdecisionstomake and I’m definitely up for a Christmas thread

Hope everyone else is doing well

Scottishskifun · 06/10/2024 21:45

@Dashel I think sometimes you need that downtime to help reset mentally when you are going through lots of lemons it's what's needed to help you get through.

@Gemzee amazing news well done!

I seem to finally be shifting slowly down 1.5lb down but off on holiday on Saturday so will see what happens between now and then!

Dashel · 07/10/2024 08:05

Morning,

Finally weighed in at 10st 13.6lb 😭
Feeling really bad in myself as I know I have been eating badly and lots of beige food and vegan junk food so it’s not like I have been eating well but in excess calories.

We did do some batch cooking over the weekend and have lots of fruit and vegetables so need to do better. It’s a new week and I’m taking it as a fresh start.

bigdecisionstomake · 07/10/2024 09:10

Morning all

Back from holiday feeling refreshed and ready to go again - which is lucky as our second busiest couple of months of the year at work are about to start 😐

My biggest takeaway is that I feel confident, happy and like my body (mum tum excepted) at just under 10 stone. I could see the definition in my legs and arms from all the weights workouts so am keen to continue with that and try to improve it a bit more.

I generally don't do well with my weight in the run up to Christmas but I feel a bit of determination this morning not to let it all slip now and to try to get back to around 9st 10/11 lbs before Christmas if I can (work allowing).

I wasn't going to weigh for a few days in case it put me off but I jumped on the scales this morning without thinking. I'm 10st 3.2lbs which is actually better than I was expecting although it's 6lbs higher than my weight before I went away 😲I'm hoping there's a bit of bloat/water to come off initially and that it is not all fat gain!

I've started back with Day 36 of the HR 4.0 program which was a leg day and have just done a big online shop to stock up the fridge with lots of healthy options. I do have two nights out this week so am managing my expectations in terms of loss but I guess even if I can stay the same it will be better than continuing to gain.

Sorry about the bounce up @NahThen but it could be lots of things so keep consistent and you'll see the results. Hope the clothes shopping went ok.

Whoop whoop for 4lbs off @Gemzee well done! It just goes to show that when you focus you can make it happen - great job!

@Scottishskifun I know that feeling well of losing and finding the same pound over and over again - it can be really demotivating. Well done on the 1.5lb loss though - perhaps the thought of going away soon really focused you - I know it worked wonders for me.

@Dashel Sorry you've had more lemons to deal with - sending a handhold your way. Would you recommend Malta for a relaxing break? Funnily enough DP and I sat on the plane on the way home on Saturday discussing where we might go next year and Malta was pretty much top of both our new places to try that would still be reliably warm late September/early October. A fresh start this week sounds like a great choice for us both - we can do this 🤗

What are we all thinking about a new thread? Are we happy to continue on this one or do we want a new one? Let me know your thoughts.

Have great days all.

OP posts:
Dashel · 07/10/2024 09:25

@bigdecisionstomake can we do a new one for a new start please? Plus seeing Summer is a bit depressing now.

Really glad you had a great time and I’m sure you will loose a few pounds over the next few days, flying bloats me.

Malta is good but maybe for a week, I think 2 weeks might be too much. It’s got loads of history and it’s lovely but stoney beaches. You do a week in Malta and a week in Gozo but we didn’t have the time.

Gemzee · 07/10/2024 10:31

Agree, new thread for Christmas would be good, I'd like to head into December slightly under goal if possible to allow for overeating during xmas (I'll allow it for a couple weeks and jump back on track in Jan - along with many others I'm sure!).

Dashel · 08/10/2024 07:11

Morning,

I had a good day yesterday, I ate well and got 17k steps and restarted weights with arm day. Weighed in at 10st 12.0 so a sharp drop but no doubt all water, due to a lack of crisps and alcohol 🫣

We also did a relaxing yoga with Adriene video and a 10 minute guided meditation from Fit On. There seems to be quite a few on that app and new workouts as it’s been a while since I used it.

It’s horrible here so probably lots of GFWR for steps.

bigdecisionstomake · 08/10/2024 18:14

Afternoon all

@Dashel Interesting about Malta, thank you. We don't really do the beach and might have one or two days out but generally just like to laze around and eat and drink too much and enjoy the warmer weather. I'll have a look and see what the hotels look like. You had an amazing day yesterday - well done. The number of steps you get is awesome. Great that you're carrying on with the weights too - I think it really does make a difference to your body composition if you're consistent with it. Hope the yoga and meditation provided a little relief from life's stresses for a short while.

I have joined you with the initial whoosh and am down to 10st 2.3lbs this morning and that was even though I had a glass of wine with my evening meal (in my defense I came back to an enormous workload and was still at it at 10pm last night so felt I deserved it).

Today hasn't been quite so good food wise but I joined you with an arm day this morning so hopefully that will help.

I will get onto the new thread shortly @Gemzee and @Dashel and post a link once it's done 🙂
