Gastric balloon

Looking for anyone who has experience of a gastric balloon? Since covid I've put approx 4 stone on and as much as I've tried to lose it, I just can't. This seems like a drastic expensive way to kick start the weight loss, but currently at the stage when I think it's the only way! I've read loads online but would love some personal experiences of it!

Do they give you anti sickness pills?

Graceunderstands · 18/09/2023 22:44

It is bad.

it gets easier. The only advise I can give is to stick with it and don’t overeat. Use the time to learn new ways to enjoy food.

If you overeat you will feel so sick. I did. But I’m so glad I stuck with it.

Beat of luck to you ❤️

I had anti sickness pills for 3 days.

It’s loads better then when I first had it done now though.

Thanks.

defo haven’t been over eating.

i had to do 5 days of liquids… today is purées and Iv still stuck to soup and my stomach is still cramping after but no pain no gain I suppose.

At least the sickness has mostly stopped!

My partner had a private consultation appt about it. The consultant said it was only suitable for small weight losses (<2stone) and the chance of putting it back on afterwards was very high. He discouraged DP from having it

I’m planning double that but I will try and update in 6 months time and see what it actually is.

I’m not worried about putting it all on after. Iv been slim my whole life and it’s only in the last 18-2 years Iv put it all on due to various things. That’s all over now and basically I want to lose it quicker then just dieting alone, I had the spare cash and thought why not.

Graceunderstands · 20/09/2023 20:33

I found I was pretty much unwell most of the time, but like you said no pain no gain. I hope you can stick it out. Xxx

Graceunderstands · 20/09/2023 20:35

I agree with you.

deffo won’t be putting it back on. I have the right mindset now and 4 stone is a lot to shift any other way in my opinion! The very best of luck to you xxx

@Nightsku I am going in next week gor mine. I kind of lost this thread after starting it, so appreciate all the posts!!
Glad to hear you are feeling slightly better. I'm starting to feel quite scared with just how bad I'm going to feel. I've also not told people about it so don't have much time off work, which I'm also dreading!!

Good luck!
The sickness after is terrible…. Aslong as you can get through that you will be fine.

I didn’t take much time off work but I had it on the Friday and if I really had too I could of worked by the Tuesday! My work don’t know Iv had it either.

I described it as the worlds worst hangover that you can’t shift 😂! But it does get better. I would of had mine in a week tomorrow and I’m nearly back to 100%! The sickness lasted 2-3 days. Then I had crippling stomach cramps but that’s mostly gone now too.

Which one are you getting? Send me a dm if you want to keep in contact along the journey! I don’t know anyone that’s had it apart from this forum 😀

Can I ask why you wouldn’t do it again?

Im looking at the 12 month one.

Sorry to only just reply to you now @Dazzledee . The reason for me not wanting it again is I just didn't get on with it about half way through. At the beginning it's epic, you are not really hungry and you have to eat really minimal amounts. They key to it, as they will cover is you have to eat really tiny bites and chew and chew and chew, if you don't you will know why. I really struggled with this, I eat really quickly and eat far quicker than my husband for instance. I don't like food going cold I think (rather than just greed). I found towards the middle end of it I felt like I had food stuck, I probably did because it could not bypass the balloon. They say that a can of coke or sparkling water can clean the balloon but it didn't work for me and I ended up having to make myself sick to clear the buildup on the top of the balloon. Gross I know, but that's my experience. Of course if you follow their advice hopefully this won't happen to you.
