Being short is shit

noyoucanthavethelastbiscuit · 05/06/2023 17:31

Over the course of a long time, I've come to discover that at 5'2, my calorie allowance to maintain is no more than 1400.

More than that, and I put on bloody weight Envy

To lose weight, I have to eat 1200 or less. Ideally less to see a steady loss of 1lb a week

I am just 25. It's so frustrating. Anyone else have this issue?

When I lifted weights, I was fine eating 1700 calories and could maintain on that. No such luck if only doing exercises such as lots of walking and vigorous cleaning etc. No time for much else sadly at the moment

Being short is shit, isn't it?

Yes it's shit 🤦‍♀️ I raise you being short and put into early menopause - to loose weight I literally have to spend my life hungry!

As it is I exercise every day of the week, eat 1,400 - 1,500 calories and stay roughly the same.

backseatwatching · 05/06/2023 18:28

im 4f 11inc and i feel great about it im almost 40 im not fat not thin eat what i like .

WellThisIsFun1 · 05/06/2023 18:34

Yep, five foot one here and my 'healthy' weight is seven and a half stone.

Haven't weighed that since I was 16 and don't have a cat in hells chance of ever weighing that again.

I'm not overweight, I'm under height...

bibbingo · 05/06/2023 18:43

Yep, 5ft1.5 and looking/feeling overweight at 9st11 Sad

Upsizer · 05/06/2023 18:48

I agree about the weight but I also think that short women can carry off extra weight better - we still look cute!

UniCandle · 05/06/2023 18:57

I'm 5 foot 6 and stick to 1400, currently on 1250 to shift some post holiday weight.

RandomMess · 05/06/2023 18:57

@Upsizer sorry I disagree completely.

My arms are FAT, I look pregnant not cute.

Tiredanddistracted · 05/06/2023 18:59

Yes, it's total shit being short. I'm 5'2 and every single pound contributes further to my body's apparent aim of resembling a barrage balloon.

Last time I checked, I had quite a high daily limit to maintain but that's probably because I weigh 14 and a half stone. So, swings and roundabouts...

Oblomov23 · 05/06/2023 19:05

Agreed. It's so shit. You can barely eat anything, without it being too much and putting on weight.

Anaemiafog · 05/06/2023 19:15

I wasn't looking at the weight loss page, your post popped up on the main menu. I'm 161.5cm (that point five is very important) but I love being small. I maintain on exactly 1200 calories (I know that because due to illness and having a couple of organs removed, I'm tube fed) so it could be worse.
I think you need to get creative with the calories you have and keep as busy as you can, not only will that burn extra but it'll stop you craving. I've always seen weight as a mental not a physical battle. I now have the opposite problem (I'm 40kg) but it feels exactly the same, counting calories.

Lostmyway86 · 05/06/2023 19:33

I'm 5ft 3 and weigh 9 stone. I do eat around 2000 calories a day, however I exercise 5 days a week...4x intense HIIT workouts and 1x 10k run. I also cycle for 20 minutes to work on my two rest days. Eat a lot of protein and spread out my calories (500 breakfast, 500 lunch, 500 dinner. 500 afternoon/eve snack, coffees and occasional wine!). I manage to maintain my weight on this, however painfully aware if I just ate less I could lose weight but I know I can't do it, I love my food! I could also exercise less if I ate less but exercise is good for my mind. Would love to lose half a stone which I reckon I could do if I cut out snacks/coffee/wine, but I have a 2 and 3 year old so refuse as need them! It's very frustrating though, I have much taller friends who eat more and exercise less and look fantastic. DH never exercises and eats crap but is lean as over 6ft.

coxesorangepippin · 05/06/2023 19:47

I'm 5'4 and can really only eat 1400 clas to maintain. I'm around ten stone, feel far better at 9.5 but it's so bloody difficult dieting and losing weight

Being short is difficult

I also have massive boobs so when I put weight on I feel like I'm suffocating!

Gah🙄

See you have quite a few inches on me height wise and this is why even if I eat something silly like 8/900 cals a day, I'd never be stick thin, like some tall Russian ladies near the uni here... they are so tall and elegant looking Envy

I’ve found my people! 40, 5ft 2 and the heaviest I’ve even been, aside from pregnancy, at 9st 11lbs. I look and feel overweight. Trying so hard to get back to 9st by being in a daily calorie deficit but it’s tough. I’ve only ever lost weight successfully via keto but I find it so hard to stick to.

RandomMess · 05/06/2023 20:13

@noyoucanthavethelastbiscuit that is Garfield'a line from the 80s!

noyoucanthavethelastbiscuit · 05/06/2023 20:14

Does anyone here have a really broad build?

I am really short obviously but my shoulders seem so wide and my collarbones are quite long too.... even when really slim and they're protruding, I still look broad

@Anaemiafog you are a giant 10cm taller than me, not short at all!

Essexexile · 05/06/2023 20:14

I’m 5’0” and currently weigh about 8 stone. Under a year ago I was 10 stone 10lbs but daily walks and workouts 3 times a week have resulted in this weight loss. I started off at 1500 calories per day but now maintain at 1800 per day, although I don’t always use that allowance. I log all my calories on MFP, which is perfect. I’m rarely hungry and do try to include plenty of protein in my diet and just eat much healthier than I used to. I still socialise, drink alcohol in moderation and occasionally I have a day off calorie counting as I believe that’s a real benefit.

Can I be cheeky and ask how many cals you're having roughly if you know?

I'd be quite happy at 9st 11! That's about right for me I think and definitely slim looking... do you have a really petite frame? I'm wondering as we are the same height

OP posts:
Forgetmenott · 05/06/2023 20:22

Tell me about it. Your calorie allowance is lower but your stomach isn’t smaller. So you feel more hungry and it’s harder to maintain your weight. It sucks!

kegofcoffee · 05/06/2023 20:40

5ft 2 and was 8st 10lbs, which is the heaviest I've ever been.

I was loosing around 1-2lb a week on 1350kcal with 3 heavy weight sessions and 3 HIIT classes week, plus 12k steps a day.

But with two kids and a job that amount of exercise and food wasn't sustainable.

So now I'm 8st 4lb and maintaining at 1450kcal with 3 weights sessions and 1 cardio session a week, plus 10k steps a day.

Which completely sucks! I'd love to have a maintenance of 1800kcal, then I could just eat healthy without all of the meal planning and portion weighing.

planthelpadvice · 05/06/2023 20:43

I hear you! I'm 5'2" and was 8.5st (54kg) for a very, very long time. It seemed to be my natural weight - I never felt I was depriving myself, but after I turned 40 I gained a load of weight and it's so hard to shift. I went up to 80kg (12.5st) but managed to lose a stone and a half/10kg. I'd like to lose another stone and a half to get down to 9.5st/ 60kg.

Crimbles · 06/06/2023 23:00

I’m trying to stick to 1300kcal a day but think I need less to actually lose weight. And I need to uo my steps and exercise considerably. I’m not particularly petite - my legs are big IMO (muscular calves and thighs) - I used to have a much smaller torso - I was a size 8 on top, 10 for bottoms. And I still have no boobs, despite gaining weight everywhere else 🤔
