Ozempic Price increase

I’ve just finished week four on 0.25 so have gone back to mybmi.co.uk to request 0.5mg. They have quoted me £229! I paid £129 for my first lot with them but am staggered that they have quoted me this! Is that the norm for 0.5mg?

I've just seen an advert for my local pharmacy offering 1 pen for £150

ImAvingOops · 15/05/2023 20:57

The ad said that lasts between 4-8 weeks depending on dosage

MynameisJune · 15/05/2023 21:00

£129 seems cheap, everywhere I’ve looked it’s £200 a month. I guess as demand increases so will price.

Yes, this was with a discount code x

That’s really good. Didn’t know local pharmacies were started to sell them

The ad said they were offering private consultations with the pharmacist. Customers still have to fulfil certain conditions though - bmi of 30 or above iirc

Lavendersquare · 16/05/2023 00:53

@ImAvingOops I'm just wondering where this pharmacy is? Sounds like a good deal and much easier than trying to find stock on the internet.

ImAvingOops · 16/05/2023 08:48

It's in South Wales. They haven't started doing it yet, it's a new service. I just tried to find the ad cos I only skim read it but typically can't find it now. I'll have another look and if I can find it I'll post it on here

ImAvingOops · 16/05/2023 08:57

@Lavendersquare I sent you a pm with the details

Twilightstarbright · 16/05/2023 09:10

Quickmeds charged £175 for a 1mg pen last week, and said increases are due to stock issues.

QueefQueen80s · 16/05/2023 09:28

Yet another thing unaffordable for the masses, yet the cost of obesity amongst working class is costing a fortune. Hopefully they will start prescribing it

Diedre44 · 16/05/2023 17:25

I think that they're increasing the prices to try and put people off buying it to try and help with the supply demands everywhere seems to having at the moment. I used Manual originally £129.00 then Health express was £159.99. I'm due to go up to 1ml next week and already in a panic as nowhere seems to have the stock. I am praying for Wegovy to be available soon.

There are huge issues with stock everywhere at the moment. I think Australia doesn’t have any currently for the second time this year. So it’s not just here.

Wegovy probably won’t be available until Ozempic supplies are more regular I would say.

ImAvingOops · 16/05/2023 22:37

@Backtoblack1 I sent you a pm, so hopefully they will have stock next time you need to order

caringcarer · 16/05/2023 22:56

I get my prescription on NHS and put in prescription for 1.0 dose and went to collect a week later but still not in. Finally got the pens yesterday.

God this is concerning. How come it's not available? Are there production problems and what is causing them?

You'd hope they are prioritising it for diabetics who need it for insulin control. I say that as someone buying it off label. It's so dear but I'm very worried about the health impacts of obesity and I generally live a healthyish lifestyle marred by PCOS. Cant take hormones any longer so I feel I'm really stuck :(

StarGin · 17/05/2023 08:51

Would anyone know why MyBMI won't let me check out without a Voucher Code?

Peridot1 · 17/05/2023 09:59

@Radiodread - I think it’s partly they just can’t keep up with demand. Partly shortages with the actual pen mechanism as well as the actual medicine itself. I agree diabetics need to be prioritised although there are other medications for diabetes - my friend in Australia has had to stop taking Ozempic twice due to the shortages but is on metformin for her blood sugars instead.

Diedre44 · 19/05/2023 19:04

I've just ordered my 1st 1mg pen from Healthexpress at same price as last time £159.99.
I'm so glad it hasn't increased ☺️

Modda · 23/05/2023 17:26

I'm thinking of starting this as soon as I get paid, is there a good place to buy and how long does a pen last for? Thanks v much.

I have 3 stone to lose btw

Peridot1 · 23/05/2023 17:40

To be honest @Modda I probably wouldn’t try it at the moment purely due to the shortages.

is there a reason you want Ozempic rather than Saxenda? They are very similar and essentially do the same thing. Saxenda is a daily jab rather than weekly. But there don’t seem to be any shortages. It’s available from Lloyds pharmacies and Superdrug and I think has a bit of support along with it if you get through their weigh loss clinics.

WeightInLine · 23/05/2023 17:40

I paid £295 for a 0.25 pen from MyJuniper. It was the last place with stock and I had decided it was now or never. I was going to order that day and it was Out of Stock everywhere else.

I think it is just going to be expensive however I do it - so I need to make it worthwhile. I am now on a repeating £295pm so I am hoping that if stocks are iffy then the higher payers will at least get sent theirs regularly.
