Hi all
putting this on this weight loss group in the hopes that someone else understands, rather than the holiday chats as I don’t need the ‘just lose weight’ responses

so I’m going on holiday with my hubby soon with Jet2.
unfortunately I haven’t managed to lose much weight and would have preferred more but here we are with not much time to go

Question - has anyone flown with Jet2 recently and were the seat belts spacious enough? I’m really nervous about this now.
im around a size 18/20 and would really prefer not to have to get an extender! Do you think I’ll be ok? Any recent jet2 holiday goers?

I can’t answer specifically for jet2 but someone asked this very question on a holiday forum I’m in the other day - only they were a size 22 - and the overwhelming consensus was that the seat belts were fine. Someone who was a size 24 said that they needed an extender but the cabin crew were really discreet about it and it was fine.

Just flown with Jet2, surprisingly didn't need an extender. I'm 23st, size 24/26.

bijouxtt · 11/05/2023 22:09

No don't worry you won't need one. Have a lovely holiday

LittleFreakJezebel · 11/05/2023 22:11

I'm a size 20 and never needed an extender, there's normally a good bit of belt length left too.

Loria · 11/05/2023 22:13

I'm size 18 and have flown with Jet2 several times and never needed an extender. On the off chance you may, as a pp said ime Jet2 staff are genuinely helpful and don't make a fuss about anything. Eg one time I pitched up at the airport for a flight home with a badly turned ankle (hiking the day before) and they were brilliant as well as discrete. Enjoy your holiday!

Oh you have all eased my concerns thank you!

I have just flown on jet2 last week and the seatbelts were spacious. You will be absolutely fine

anniewaitsforthelasttime · 12/05/2023 06:39

Glad you've had some reassurance about jet2. I had a rather unpleasant flight with easyJet recently. I booked the back row (as cheaper than front and wanted to make a quick exit.)

Turns out the back row on their shorter planes (row 26) is much (visibly) narrower than the rest. I'm overweight with wide hips but not massive (size 16). I could barely get my arse into the seat and it was very uncomfortable. Any bigger and you genuinely wouldn't fit. They really should have a warning on those seats when booking. I googled it (while wedged in my seat wondering if I had suddenly put on that much weight since the outward flight a week before where I was a couple rows forward and fine) and there were lots of online complaints.

I’m currently sitting on a delayed plane, I’m a size 20 and fit very comfortably.

AuntyBrenda · 12/05/2023 06:49

Flew Jet2 last summer. Size 22, large belly but slimmer legs and bum and I had no problems at all getting the belt round.

I've only had to ask for an extender once. It was a few years ago when I was smaller (size 16 to 18). It was an Aer Lingus flight and the seatbelt must have had work done to it because it was stupidly short. The cabin crew were lovely though.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 12/05/2023 06:58

I'm a size 20 and don't need an extender. Didn't need one when I was a 22 either

BeverlyBrook · 12/05/2023 07:29

Jet2 seats are a great size. You will be fine. Enjoy your holiday!

AXCS · 12/05/2023 14:25

Thanks everyone so much for your responses - I feel much better about it all now! I know there’s nothing wrong with getting an extender if needed but just suddenly had a major worry about the embarrassment if I didn’t fit!
you have all reassured me and now I can get excited!

My mum is 20/22 and not needed one on easyJet Ryanair etc. Hope you have a lovely holiday

Holidaygirl123 · 09/07/2024 10:10

I'm worrying about a Tui flight in Dec. What size will I need to be to get the food tray to lay flat? I'm a size 22 but my weight sits around my tummy

mondaytosunday · 15/07/2024 17:06

I'm size 22 and tall but needed an extender for the first time on EasyJet this month. A personal low but the staff were discreet and I doubt anyone noticed (though wish it wasn't bright red). Being tall my legs were jammed up against the seat in front which was awful.

moun82 · 15/07/2024 18:00

I was on four easy jet flights in one week recently, three were fine with plenty of room but one flight the belt was tiny and I really had to pull tight to get it on and it was really uncomfortable. I was on my own so couldn't even swap with my Dc.
So if for some reason it doesn't fit it could just be the belt rather than you. I'm taking it the belt on my flight had been shortened for some reason.

Tightfishedtwat · 15/07/2024 18:20

I'm so pleased I've seen this. I was worried myself for next week.

NoTouch · 15/07/2024 18:36

When I was that size I once couldn't do a seat belt up 😳.

I spoke to the air steward and he said he would need to move me as I was at the emergency exit (had booked it for the leg room as I am also tall), and extenders were not allowed in that seat as they would be a trip hazard. They moved me to another seat and the seat belt fitted no problem with several inches to spare!

Not sure if they do it on purpose at those seats or if it was just bad luck. I would avoid the emergency exit row, but otherwise think you will be ok.
