I'm going to be really unhelpful and say both, sorry! If I just do the 16:8 I maintain my weight so long as I'm mindful of portion sizes/avoid junk and keep up a reasonable exercise regime, if any of those slip I gain weight even on 16:8. I really doubt I could ever lose weight (or only very very slowly) just doing 16:8 without some form of calorie restriction or following SW or something. So if it was one or other to lose weight I'd choose calorie counting, but personally I find it really helpful to stick at least loosely to 16:8 too, as I'm not much of a breakfast eater and putting the 16 hour fast restriction means I can have reasonably sized lunches and dinners and it incentivises me to not snack in the evenings. But obviously if you get on better on 3 meals a day maybe 16:8 isn't for you?

I do both too. If you think you can eat what you like during your eating windows, that's not how it works I'm afraid.

I stopped eating breakfast p and then soon found it easy to skip lunch too. I drink coffee and tea so not 100% following the rules but I only have an evening meal now and some fruit/yoghurt for dessert. With my drinks it comes to about 1000 calories. Obvs you can have more than this depending on your tdee but I'm trying to get the last half stone off as quickly as possible and I actually find not eating during the day works very well for me.

I was just thinking about this today. Agree with both being best but think it’s calorie counting if it’s one or the other because calories in vs calories out is the basis for weight loss.

Isn't it the same principle with just a different method? In both cases, it comes down to reducing daily calories intake. You either actively count them or you skip a meal and naturally lower them.

Calorie counting. If I’m hungry, I’ll eat, IDGAF what time it is I’m not depriving myself cause of the clock.
