Protein shakes

I am looking to buy protein shakes to aid my weight loss. Twice a week I am going to do fasting, so will try to keep it down to one, maybe two meals. If I buy the meal replacement shakes, I feel I am adding a lot of calories. As it is just twice a week, would I be better off just having a pure protein shake?

As far as I can see, the only difference between protein shakes and the likes of exante or slimfast is that they have various micronutrients added. I think as long as you're eating one well-balanced, full of veg meal then protein shakes are a great way to boost weight loss.

If it's only a couple of times a week I can't see you getting any weird gastro effects - go for it!

Better off with just the protein instead of the ones with added carbs etc.

Protein Shakes are a really good way to boost your protein intake. Just make sure you look at the nutritional label - some of them are low quality and are quite high in carbs/sugar. (Like the ones they sell in Home Bargains!)
You want to look for something with 24g upwards of protein and less than 5g of carbs per serving.

I'd recommend looking online at myprotein or the protein works! I'd recommend just a simple whey protein. They usually have good deals on, although I've noticed the price has gone through the roof recently.

And FYI, because I've heard it seven million times, shakes do not make you 'bulky' or put on fat - 30g of protein is just 30g of protein, whether that is from a shake or a piece of chicken. It's just an easier, quicker way to supplement your protein intake.

I have a Purition shake every day for lunch as I’m too lazy to sort food out. They’re a a protein shake with lots of different seeds etc and really nutritious. I add some berries, yoghurt and half an avocado and it’s a really satisfying meal that I can drink in the go.
