According to my BMI, I'm overweight. Do you put any stock in BMI? Are there better tools? I'm a size 8 ffs!

BMI is based on nothing. Ignore it. If you want more info listen to the BMI episode of the podcast Maintenance Phase. It is not suitable for measuring anything to do with health.

Try getting elective surgery with persistently high BMI.

I said it means nothing scientifically in relation to health impact, didn’t say it means nothing in our society which treats it like the holy grail despite it being invented by an astronomer and never, to this day, having been tested on women or non-white person.

Yes, Adolphe Quetelet was an astronomer. He was also a Statistician, a Mathematician, and a Sociologist.
This survey evidence.nihr.ac.uk/alert/diabetes-prevention-should-start-at-different-bmi-for-each-ethnic-group/ of other 1 million people in the UK covered adults from different ethnic groups and all genders. The World Health Organization recommended lowering the BMI cut-off for Chinese and South Asian populations based on research.
BMI has widely understood issues, and is seen as a guide; the fact remains there's a strong correlation between a high BMI and weight-related health issues.

I just don't think we can put much stock in clothes sizes anymore, they're so random. I need a size 8 or sometimes even an XS in some shops. My BMI is 21, so I'm slim and healthy, but there's no way I'd get into an "old school" size 8, and probably not even a 10 either.
