Hi ladies, here is the new thread for November.

I'm the Sam's octopus, which is what got me to 10stone + 3 years ago.

Upping movement sounds like a good plan for the soul. Go really easy on yourself x

LBB2020 · 13/11/2022 09:40

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses sounds like your hormones have settled and you’re in your groove with exercise! (I really need to find mine!)
Go easy on yourself @Octopus45
Well done @mikado1 sounds like you’re doing really well too!
We’re taking the children to London today, could be a wonderful day or could be a complete disaster lol! (we’ve never done it before but thought they might enjoy the lights before it gets too busy in December)

mikado1 · 13/11/2022 09:47

Ooh sounds amazing, enjoy! I did actually do quite well food wise, bar a packet of crisps last night. I'll take it! Enjoy Sunday all.

Octopus45 · 16/11/2022 07:45

@LBB2020 hope you enjoyed your trip to London. I love the lights at Christmas, planning to go one weekend soon.

Up to 9st2 this morning, funny eating whilst I was away and nowhere near my normal amount of steps. Hoping to get on an even keel this week. Relieved that the funeral is over and to be back home, even though everything went smoothly.

OP posts:
LBB2020 · 18/11/2022 09:09

Thank you @Octopus45 we had a wonderful day, the boys loved it!
Hope you are doing ok?
I have been unwell this week and have been eating complete rubbish. My plan to lose 1lb per week leading up to Christmas has definitely not happened and I’m really cross with myself as that was not an unrealistic target! Never mind no point dwelling will try to get my head in the zone over the weekend now I’m feeling better

Octopus45 · 21/11/2022 07:46

Hi, hope everyone is doing ok here.

9st2 this morning, tbh I'm not doing enough steps most days. Generally feeling quite lazy as if everything's a big effort. Hope everyone is doing ok

OP posts:
LBB2020 · 21/11/2022 07:56

Go easy on yourself @Octopus45
I went to the gym last night and restarted C25K. The realisation that it’s only 5 weeks until Christmas has kicked me into action a little! Back to calorie counting today.
Hope everyone is doing okay

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/11/2022 09:30

I’m smashing through healthy for 30 and doing 10k steps, yoga, and a workout every day. No weighing still but today I am in size 10 jeans I last wore before the summer holidays and Mirena, and they are very comfy.

be kind to yourself @Octopus45 . @LBB2020 i really miss running. My foot is still not right.

LBB2020 · 21/11/2022 09:34

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses you are doing brilliantly!

Octopus45 · 25/11/2022 07:41

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses , you sound as if you are doing well.Hope everyone has had a good week

swallowedAfly · 26/11/2022 22:39

Just a quick visit. I'm huge, I'm literally seeming to put on about half a stone each fortnight at the minute - it's just madness.

I haven't been eating brilliantly but not eating loads either and I was never really strictly calorie counting or being overly restrictive in my whole losing weight time so I'm a bit bemused. I don't think it's the hrt because I tried halving it for a couple of months and put on weight even faster.

I've been signed off of work because the chronic lack of sleep finally broke me and am being investigated for heart stuff and for some lumps the doctor found in my breast. Waiting on call from breast clinic and results of blood tests. I have finally been getting some decent night's sleep since being signed off last week and prescribed some sleep medication. Have put hrt back up as it wasn't helping with weight and all the peri symptoms were harder on the lower dose.

No successes to share scales or otherwise unless you count slowly chipping away at getting things done around the house. Have only skimmed thread I'm afraid. Hope everyone is ok.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/11/2022 23:31

Oh blimey @swallowedAfly that all sounds awful. Sending lots of love.

@Octopus45 how are you bearing up?

@LBB2020 how are you doing with C25K?

I’m still exercising like crazy - four days of “healthy for 30” to go. I can hold a plank for over a minute, and feel strong. I feel like my body is finally “mine” again rather than a big sack of hormones and flab. I’ve not weighed in months though so maybe I am deluding myself!

LBB2020 · 27/11/2022 09:28

Look after yourself @swallowedAfly
How are you @Octopus45?
Wow @Judystilldreamsofhorses you are smashing it! So glad you’re feeling so much better in yourself.
I’ve had an okay week, not eaten after dinner in the evenings and have managed a couple of YouTube exercise videos during the week. Haven’t managed another run which is poor on my part but glad I’ve at least done some exercise! Did have wine, crisps and choc last night watching Strictly but didn’t go completely crazy

Octopus45 · 27/11/2022 09:36

@swallowedAfly I'm sorry to hear that, hope that your blood tests shed some light and that you get your breast referal through soon. Glad that you have been signed off and that you are managing to get some sleep. Take care of yourself as best you can.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses and @LBB2020 , I'm sort of doing ok day to day but lots happening at the moment. Sadly my Dad's brother passed away last night, also two of my DH and my mutual friend's parents have passed away this week, so three funerals to go to before Christmas. Its definitely a time of life thing but very hard. Part of me wishes there was time to stop, but there is so much to do

On the eating and weight thing, unsurprisingly not doing great. I've had a couple of meals out with friends, one friend I hadn't seen for ages and one with my bestie, which included alcohol, up two pounds this morning, but tbh its the least of the things on my mind at the moment. Going to try to keep active and drink lots of water. Cannot believe how busy London was yesterday, it was mental, had to abandon our shopping trip and go to a pub near Westminster.

mikado1 · 27/11/2022 11:41

Oh gosh iswallowedafly, that all sounds extremely tough going, glad you've taken time off. I think you're a teacher too. Really important to put yourself first. Octopus 😔 what a time... take care of yourself.

Amazing Judy and well done lbb!

swallowedAfly · 27/11/2022 21:24

Thank you! Feeling guilty about the time off but it is definitely needed. Haven't heard from breast clinic yet and I vaguely remember the doctor saying to call if I hadn't heard from them within a week (I think) which will be tomorrow. Will see what tomorrow brings.

It's horrible Octopus - dealing with a rash of deaths like that. I hope you are as ok as you can be what with your dad's passing. Tough times for you and of course weight is low on the priority list.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and Monday is smooth for you.

LBB2020 · 27/11/2022 22:01

Oh @Octopus45 I'm so sorry to hear you’re going through such an awful time.
@swallowedAfly do not feel guilty at all! Hope all goes ok with the breast clinic.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses you inspired me to get my next run done this afternoon! Feeling less guilty about the huge scone I ate today!

LBB2020 · 27/11/2022 22:02

Sorry @mikado1, how are you doing?

mikado1 · 27/11/2022 22:06

Not great food wise but not appalling. I will be leaving my wallet at home all week! Tbh life is a bit overwhelming in many ways at the moment so I'm just doing what I can. Thank you tho ☺

LBB2020 · 27/11/2022 22:19

That’s all you can do @mikado1, keep going!

swallowedAfly · 28/11/2022 08:08

So many issues that are seen as 'discrete' problems of individuals ie. weight, alcohol, mental health etc are actually societal problems in the sense of their being so little slack in our lives and space to take care of ourselves and so little capacity to deal with the normal ups and downs on top of the workload, juggled responsibilities etc of everyday life.

Very easy to say just eat less, move more to someone without looking at the bigger picture of what they have on their metaphorical plate every day. I think a lot of problems are just big red flags saying this way of living is not working, is not healthy, is not sustainable. We fire fight all the symptoms individually instead of dealing with the actual problem.

I mostly managed to avoid them but this term our faculty staffroom was constantly full of cake and biscuits and chocolates - no one said let's bring in loads of shite - everyone just spontaneously did it. Everyone was on their knees and it's like the only thing they could think of given to make work more bearable, given we have no control over the craziness of work load and demands, was to bring in loads of sugary shite to scoff on.

So yes - life is overwhelming sometimes and don't be hard on yourself mikado. Sorry for the tangent.

Octopus45 · 28/11/2022 13:34

I couldn't agree more with this @swallowedAfly . @mikado1 take care of yourself, we can all only do what we can

OP posts:
mikado1 · 28/11/2022 16:55

You've brought a tear to my eye swallowedafly so so true, every bit x

LBB2020 · 01/12/2022 18:31

How is everyone? I can’t believe it’s December already!
My week has been ok. I’ve stuck to not eating after dinner, I’ve been to the gym once and done a couple of short pilates YouTube videos. I have gotten so bad at drinking water! I’m surprised I haven’t shrivelled up!
Will weigh in tomorrow

swallowedAfly · 01/12/2022 18:46

Well done LB!

I have a kidney infection so am drinking water for everyone!
