What can the GP offer?

I’ve booked a telephone appointment with a GP for weight loss support.

I just wondered what I should expect and what they may offer. I’ve read orlistat is offered sometimes, but defo don’t want that, for reasons I shouldn’t have to mention. Earlier this year I had a phone appointment and they offered a online 12 week course self guided, I went through that but it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know or do. So not sure where to go from here. I definitely don’t want weight loss surgery, I wouldn’t mind something like saxenda but I’m already on a variety of mental health meds (weight neutral or as close to that as possible), so not sure if that’s possible. I’m not even sure it’s prescribed in Scotland.

Any help?

They might offer something like Exante if you’re very overweight (shakes and bars). If MH problems they might refer you for exercise on prescription but ultimately not sure what else they can do if not wanting to consider surgery, it’ll come down to committing to lifestyle change.

I think some doctors offer slimming world membership: which would be better than drugs at least

Focus on eating unprocessed foods, lots of fruit & veg and reducing your stress: this will help you lose weight and support your MH conditions

Our old surgery offered a referral to a therapy service that focused on weight loss
