Potatoes and Carrots

I am trying to lose weight.

Last week I had cooked a large portion of potatoes and carrots with the intention to freeze it in lunch sized portions. I think it was 3 potatoes and 6 carrots cut up and roasted with a bit of oil and herb.

It sat on the stove top to cool and I ended up picking at it and over the course of the day, I ate the whole dish! However I didn't eat anything else that day.

It turns out that it was only 750 calories for the dish. It filled me up and I didn't feel hungry at all during the day. I think I ate four bowls of it spaced out over the day.

It is mostly carbs but low calories. I was thinking maybe 2 or 3 days a week, I would do a potato and carrot diet! It was delicious and filling but still a low cal day.

Any thoughts on this somewhat impulsive and not well thought out plan?

Lol, that sounds like one of my plans. No real reason why not just make sure you get plenty variety of the good stuff on the other days.

well there's no protein.... Protein very important for satiety and helping ensure you lose fat rather than muscle

Protein.

But yeah it'll prob work. One of my aunts once did an Apple crumble diet. Only Apple crumble nothing else but water.

Another time sausages. Only.

And once she ordered 20 of those 99p hamburgers from McDonald's and took the buns off because she needed protein.

Size 6-8.

I definitely don't eat enough protein. I do eat eggs. Rarely eat meat or dairy and allergic to tree nuts (I do eat peanuts but they are high cal).

What are good low calorie protein options?

Beans and lentils are your friends if you need veggie protein. YOu could try just doing carrots and then having them with cooked green lentils (tins or ping packets) and some chopped spring or red onion. A three bean salad with tinned tuna and chopped tomato is nice and very quick too.

I like beans and lentils and chickpeas etc but they make me so gassy!

I could eat more tuna. Canned meat is really high in sodium and I am also trying to avoid more bloating! Middle aged and overweight are just not a good combo!

If you'll eat other canned fish eg sardines etc then they are even better for you than tuna as the oil is drained off tuna. Also beans and lentils are good for phyto oestrogens if you are heading into peri/meno. I try to have 3 portions a week on "private" nights.....

Try puy lentils.
Good quality tofu and seitan.
Not my wheelhouse (vegan) but sliced hardboiled eggs maybe?

But if you felt full and fine on that do it a couple of days a week! Some people fast and eat nothing...
