Hi ladies,

Here is the new thread.

I'm starting out at 9st1.25 this month, no particular aims this month. I've got a lot going on with my Dad and I'm not sure how things are going to pan out.

Lets hope for some lovely Summer weather this month.

Hi all.
@Octopus47 - sorry to hear about your dad. Sending unmumsnetty hugs.

I'm currently on holiday at Disney. Breakfast was a cinnamon bun donut the size of my face and lunch is planned to be pizza. I have my fingers firmly in my ears as I shout la la la. I'll be on here sobbing next Monday though!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/07/2022 17:05

oh have a smashing holiday @QueenMabby

I felt like I was looking pretty good today, have done four runs this week, so just stepped on the scales - I am 6lb up from Wednesday morning. This is water/hormones, right? (I feel like binning the scales might be a smart move.) I had the Mirena coil fitted almost a fortnight ago and have oestrogen gel to use with it.

QueenMabby · 17/07/2022 19:58

How are your clothes feeling @Judystilldreamsofhorses ? When I've run in the past I've often put on weight - the body diverts blood etc to the muscles to help repair and build and the muscles retain fluid too. I've not really been bigger though and often clothes fitted better even if the scales said I'd gained.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/07/2022 20:15

My clothes feel fine and I feel like my tummy looks nice and flat 🤷🏻‍♀️

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/07/2022 20:25

Also - I usually weigh first thing after using the loo, and this was late afternoon after a million cups of tea. That might have something to do with it.

Octopus47 · 18/07/2022 07:47

Wow @Judystilldreamsofhorses your running is amazing. 9st1.75 this morning. I'm still eating quite a lot despite the stress and heat. Also when I'm up North it never involves much walking.

Hi, hope everyone has coped ok in this heat, so relieved that its cooled down today. 9st0.75 this morning.

LBB2020 · 20/07/2022 09:22

Morning, I’m relieved it’s starting to cool down too! Sleep has not been good in our house and I’m very tired, hot and bothered!
On the plus side, I’ve not wanted to eat much and have drunk lots and lots of water! I’ve not done any exercise as it’s been too hot but hopefully I’ll get to the gym tomorrow and over the weekend.
Hope everyone is doing ok

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/07/2022 10:56

Morning! After Sunday I took the scales and got on a ladder and put them on top of the cupboards in the utility room. Logically I know I did not gain six pounds in four days but I need to step away from them for a bit while my body settles down on the HRT.

I did run two of week seven last night, and am back to sit-ups/plies too.

LBB2020 · 20/07/2022 12:52

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses thats commitment in the weather we’ve had!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/07/2022 12:58

I’m in Scotland, @LBB2020 - no heatwave here!

LBB2020 · 20/07/2022 14:03

Oh yes! Sorry I remember you mentioned breaking up for summer a couple of weeks back! Lucky you, we’re in southeast and it’s been unbearable!

Octopus47 · 22/07/2022 07:52

@Judystilldreamsofhorses dont blame you re the scales. You are doing amazingly with your running.

So relieved that its cooled down, hope everyone is feeling better and getting more sleep. 9st this morning.

I finally braved the scales this morning, 10st13lbs. Not as bad as I was expecting to be honest! Hoping to get down to 10st10lbs by the end of the month and 10st7lb by end of August (they feel like achievable goals)

Octopus47 · 26/07/2022 07:55

Hi, how's everyone's week going? Had a bit of rain here yesterday.

Weighed 8st13.25 this morning, but the scales said LO a couple of times so it could be the battery, will get a new one later.

Things are looking better than expected with my Dad. The cancer has spread to his ribs but we dont think it has spread anywhere else. He had a CT scan last week and will have a bone scan at some point which will probably confirm this.

Ooh your magical number 8 putting in an appearance again Octopus!

Judy let me know how the mirena settles. I'm on patches but have considered the route you're taking. Scared of the mirena effects though - some people rave about it some hate it.

I will admit my weight now and try to not be phased by people saying awful things about themselves for weighing much less! I'm 12:8 today - this is already a few pounds down from the number I saw last time I posted. I think end of March/early April I was about 11:9 - I've had two holidays and a weekend break away since then and a lot of work stress and things going on and this endless patch of only getting 3-5 hours sleep a night. My diet kind of went out the window - I don't think I ate much more or did much less but I wasn't watching the scales or taking action about gaining even though I could feel and see the difference.

Still down on where I was this time last year and I double my hours in September so will be busier and burning more. For now just being more mindful with food and keeping an eye on scales and fitbit - hopefully it will continue to go back down as it has recently.

swallowedAfly · 26/07/2022 09:01

Posted too soon - sorry to hear it has metastasised Octopus. My Dad was lucky, they just mentioned 'hot spots' about his scans which scared the hell out of us but as far as we know turned out to be ok. He was only earlyish 70s at the time. I hadn't realised your Dad was so much older. How is he coping with the news?

LBB2020 · 26/07/2022 09:47

Morning all, glad to hear things are better than expected with your dad @Octopus47 but sorry to hear it has spread.
@swallowedAfly don’t be too hard on yourself, life gets in the way and if you can’t enjoy food and drinks on holidays when can you!
My period started this morning which I wasn’t expecting until the weekend, I’ll weigh again on Friday and try not to go crazy with chocolate this week! I’m off work this week having some one to one time with DS1 before he starts full time school in September! (DS2 is at his usual childcare setting), easier to not eat too much when I’m not sat at home all day working!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/07/2022 10:18

Hello, how can it be almost Amazing August already?

@Octopus47 sorry to hear your dad’s illness has progressed, but glad it is not as bad as expected.

@swallowedAfly I was on the mini pill until last week so stopped that on Sunday - have had pretty heavy bleeding since then as that settled down but that now seems to be coming to an end. I had no periods on it other than occasional very light bleeding so had forgotten how horrible it is! Is that you on holiday now?

@LBB2020 enjoy your time off!

As for me, I think I have probably bled off a few pounds (sorry) but have not stepped on the scales.

I did the second week eight run yesterday, and have been doing 50 sit ups every night. Food I am trying to be more mindful with, but I do find it harder in the summer holidays. I bought a measure for wine and realise my glasses were VERY generous so that should help too!

DirtonthePlough · 26/07/2022 14:18

I've just bought myself a dress in a 10 so I'm going to have to get my arse in gear. Realistically it will be next year. I've been ill with tonsillitis and a bad chest and am still poorly so I've done next to nothing for the past few days. I've barely eaten though so that's hopefully resetting my appetite to being smaller. Today is the last day of term and my step count is going to dip drastically without the school run. I'll have to get on my ball.
Off to catch up now.

swallowedAfly · 26/07/2022 15:48

Judy yes I'm on holiday now. Well done with your running progress - very impressed!

I have issues with progesterone - mini pill made me crazier than ever pms wise when I tried it years ago. I went for patches as the most gentle form of delivering it but it does mean ups and downs whereas I'm told the mirena is a very small dose delivered consistently and someone with similar issues with progesterone and history of pms etc to me told me it was much better for her. I've noticed differences in mood and heart rate and all sorts on the 2 weeks my patches include progesterone. Is the estrogen gel easy to find or having shortages?

Attempting to make this a very low calorie day taking advantage of not really having an appetite so far. I've got fresh salad in the fridge and some prawns so will make a big bowl of salad when I do get hungry. Thinking of boiling some eggs too soon so there's something filling and protein packed to reach for if I get snacky.

Octopus47 · 26/07/2022 17:06

@swallowedAfly as others have said, dont be too hard on yourself, life really does get in the way sometimes.

@DirtonthePlough hope you are feeling better.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses you are doing amazingly with your exercise.

@LBB2020 enjoy your time off

Not sure if my Dad realises, think my Sister played it down. He's not the easiest character tbh as I've said on here before. Its difficult cause he's so frail and he wants us there all the time, which isn't realistic. Think he probably needs to be in somewhere.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/07/2022 20:17

Gah, I couldn’t resist and got the scales. 11/6! I started at 10/10 on 1 July, so 10lb up in less than four weeks? It has to be the HRT, I think, but it can’t be 10lb of water weight. I had just eaten dinner, and usually weigh first thing, but still.

QueenMabby · 28/07/2022 18:14

Hi all!

Back from holiday. Braved the scales yesterday. 9st 9.2lb so "only" up by 2.2lb which is not bad considering 2 weeks of holiday, and now covid and my period!

Still feeling pretty rough and not been out for four days so activity levels are basically stationary but have tested negative today (still coughing though) so may go out for a walk after work (from home) tomorrow.

Need to pick up my activity levels again - averaged over 20k steps a day while away!

swallowedAfly · 29/07/2022 06:38

Leave it a few days and do a first thing weigh Judy - bonkers doing it full of food and liquids. Try not to panic. I thought you said before that you felt ok and clothes didn't feel tighter etc so ? could be a reaction to all the running.

I'm 12:6.6 today so downwards again. Actually managed to get scales app to work on new phone and synched scales for first time. According to app in mid May I was 11:10 so up 10lbs still on where I left off but allegedly have gained over 2lbs of muscle mass so at least not all of it is fat lol.

Will keep onwards. Will set some goals in awesome August.

Hope you feel better soon Mabby!
