Journalling for weight loss?

Has anyone found that journalling works for them to help with weight loss?

I need to lose weight (obese according to bmi, out of breath easily, joints suffering) but I just can’t get in the right mindset, between lack of sleep due to toddler and the last 2 years really taking a toll.

I joined slimming world for about 3 months last year and lost nothing because I wasn’t following the plan. I hoped the accountability part would help me get started but no.

Every morning I think this is it, I’m going to stop eating all the time, but by 9am I’m eating all the biscuits.

So I thought maybe journalling might help, and I wondered if any of you found it helpful, and what kind of thing/questions do you journal about? I’m not talking about a food diary, but more feelings and stuff.

When I first started my weightloss journey, I used journaling a lot. I found it really useful for motivating myself and for helping me understand the links between my feelings and what I’m eating.

I used a “wellness journal” from a company called Papier. On the one hand, these journals are pretty expensive for what they are, but on the other you can tell that a lot of thought went into designing them and picking the right questions. If you flick through the pictures, you can see the questions you get asked on a daily basis, but there’s also a few other pages with longer term goals etc. Anyway, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, it’s pretty easy to copy the daily pages at least.

For what it’s worth, I was where you are now this time last year. I am now 4 stone lighter and a healthy BMI. I had plenty of false starts, but the trick is to just keep trying. Easier said than done I know, but it is possible. I also found the monthly weightloss threads on MN really helpful. I think the current one is called “Lose It April”. Lots of friendly people on that thread who know how hard it can be to get and stay motivated. It always helps to know you’re not alone!

Congrats! I have similar amount to lose (probably 5 stones!) so this is useful to know it helped you. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.
