I've just started reading this book and it's really hitting home for me. I am not a bulimic but I am a serious binge eater. Would anyone like a read-along / discussion/support group for the book?

Sounds good! Found this book v useful in understanding binge eating.

thecircusclown · 23/12/2021 11:05

Same here, only partway through but it's really shining a light on things for me. I've never really considered that my behaviour isn't emotionally driven as such but more of a miswired innate action. Tempted to get the work book

I found this book absolutely life-changing. The podcast was really helpful too. I've been free from binging and restriction for over 5 years now.

I wish you all the best @thecircusclown

I need to re-read the book, I have not stopped binge eating yet. Didn't know there was a podcast so thank you, will listen to it to help myself

Puppymania · 28/12/2021 20:34

@CouldBeHere I have just listened to the first episode and it was great, reminded me about the book and how it is so simple. I'm off work for another 6 days so will spend my time reading, listening and tidying up so that I start 2022 in a positive place.
@thecircusclown have you read more of the book? How are you finding it?

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/12/2021 20:36

I read this and thought it was great, also bought the workbook. I must reread tho.. Hmm Christmas is tricky!

CouldBeHere · 29/12/2021 08:01

@Puppymania I'm really pleased the podcast might be useful for you.

thecircusclown · 05/01/2022 10:08

WOW, the book has been mindblowing for me. Buying the workbook now. It's genuinely like a light switch has been turned on for me!

Oh fantastic. You've inspired me to read again!

SmaugMum · 05/01/2022 10:29

Thanks so much for the recommendation; my DD1(14) is a serious binge eater and it is causing massive issues in our home and family life. I have a day off today so I’m going to seek out the podcast to explore if it can help me to understand and help her.

Drunkpanda · 05/01/2022 18:28

I read the book, but I did struggle to do what she suggested - when I have the urge to overeat I don't want to resist the urge and wait for it to go away, it's like I've already given in. If I could just not have the urge... maybe the workbook would help though?

Drunkpanda · 05/01/2022 18:34

Bugger went on Amazon and have just seen that I bought the workbook two years ago! Blush Need to actually read it.
Read the longer one though.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/01/2022 18:35

Same re workbook. It's here somewhere!! Listening to podcast now, very good.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/01/2022 19:33

I’ve not read this book but the word binge caught my eye.

I’ve been a binge eater all my life. It got worse as l got older. This year for some random reason after Boxing Day l decided to ditch sugar. I’ve never done this before, it was very hard.

I’ve not binged since then. This is the longest time for about 20 years.

I’m not saying I’ll manage. But it’s a small triumph. If I’m desperate I’ll eat dark chocolate, but I’ve never really felt desperate!😲

I’m amazed tbh😵

Drunkpanda · 05/01/2022 19:39

Good for you!
I think I do fine for a while when I don't want to eat, but once I do I give in to the urge straight away. It's like an auto pilot.
I wonder if the pod cast might be even more effective as hearing the words might sink in more.

WeeFae · 05/01/2022 19:40

I found the workbook way better than the original book.

WeeFae · 05/01/2022 19:44

Didn't know there was a podcast, thank you!
