Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting.
I'm booked for a gastric sleeve in January in Irmet International with Dr Fatih Sumer. I just wanted to ask has any had surgery at Irmet with Dr. Sumer?

I really wanted surgery here in the UK but after contacting every surgeon I can find, it isn't an option, my BMI is 34.8 and I don't have an underlying health condition (I've been advised I need a BMI of 35-40 with an underlying health condition for surgery here)

I've spent my whole life on a diet (tried them all Saxenda, Keto, exercise/ personal trainers) and I've been the same weight for 6 years.

Basically I'm scared though I want the surgery more than anything I've done as much research as I can but has anyone any experience with Irmet?

Dahlia1978 · 14/12/2022 10:32

Hi @user922218 I can't advise on Turkey but I had private surgery here in the UK, my BMI was 37 with no underlying health conditions, so not much higher than you. I know the NHS guidelines are 35-40 with health conditions, or 40+ with no other conditions, but my surgeon was happy to go ahead. I didn't want to gain more weight and/or end up with major health issues. I was in relatively good health but starting to get niggling health problems, joint pain etc. HTH!

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 14/12/2022 13:16

@user922218 good luck with it. I wish I'd taken the plunge when my BMI was significantly lower instead of struggling and failing at diets for years. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago and my BMI is under 50 for the first time in forever and I can't even explain how happy I am! Despite all the regrets two days post op, it honestly think it's the best thing I ever did.

user922218 · 16/12/2022 08:02

Thanks for the info.
I have another question and I'm sorry I'm new to this thread so it may already have been answered but I don't see it.

I've been reading a lot about hair loss. I don't have great hair to start with very fine but an ok amount of it I suppose. After pregnancy around 16 weeks my hair started to fall out, it was quite shocking just how much is the hair loss after gastric sleeve worse than the after pregnancy hair loss?

What type of surgery did you go for?

user922218 · 16/12/2022 12:26

@Bumblebeehum I haven't been yet but booked for gastric sleeve in January

Bumblebeehum · 16/12/2022 12:33

Thanks user, best of luck with your sleeve!

I was hoping Dahlia might answer with her low BMI, would be interesting to see how the surgeons viewed that.

Hello. I joined this thread getting on for a year ago and have finally taken the plunge!

I’ve booked a gastric sleeve procedure through get slim in Turkey. I’m booked for early February in Kusadasi. Anyone been there recently? Any advice? Also, anyone booked around that time too?

thanks everyone for this thread

I would have a search on Facebook. I have seen when doing my research prior to op a number of pages about Get Slim which are quite scary.
Joining a few of the UK bariatric groups may get you some more feedback.

Dahlia1978 · 16/12/2022 19:14

@Bumblebeehum I had a gastric sleeve at my local Spire hospital. I'm now 9 weeks post op and have lost 3 stone (including pre op diet)

user922218 · 16/12/2022 19:21

@Dahlia1978 do you mind me asking how long you had to follow pre op diet?

Starlightdarkness · 16/12/2022 19:32

I'm 1 week post op, down 20lbs. I had to do 10 days LRD. From my prior research 14 seems standard. If BMI is 50+ some seem to ask for longer.

Dahlia1978 · 16/12/2022 19:43

I did 14 days pre-op diet, it wasn't too bad once I got used to it...
@Starlightdarkness well done that's a great result x

bellac11 · 16/12/2022 19:49

I dont understand how someone loses 20lbs in a week anyway? Ive had a weeks before when Ive been ill lets say, so havent eaten and perhaps lost half a stone if Im lucky, so even if I eat nothing it wouldnt be that much

How is it physically possible?

Starlightdarkness · 16/12/2022 20:16

20lbs is over 17days. 10 day LRD, then 7 days post op.

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 17/12/2022 15:24

It also depends on your starting weight. I think the more you have to lose, the quicker it comes off at first.

I'm just under 6 weeks post op and I've lost 3stone including my LRD.

Chillyoptimistic · 20/12/2022 17:00

My LDR starts tomorrow. Need to do 14 days. I’ve had to do a meal replacement diet prior to this so not too worried about it but am getting nervous about surgery!

my OP (in the uk) is booked for 4th Jan. keep switching between being really nervous and really excited about this new start.

Climbles · 20/12/2022 18:09

Yes I’m afraid the hair loss was worse for me and I think it’s the same for most people. Some people get lucky though. It’s was absolutely worth it though and I wouldn’t change a thing.

bellac11 · 20/12/2022 18:12

One of my worries is hair loss. Im in prep now for an op next year and have several weeks before it takes place

Im on multi vitamins, calcium, collegan protein which I put in drinks

Will this protect do you think from the hair loss.

I will obviously pick up the recommended supplements after the surgery as well

deedeemegadoodoo · 20/12/2022 18:22

Hello

I had a sleeve in Turkey (on my own) earlier this year. Wish I’d done it ages ago! I bought some new clothes from Zara a couple of days ago. Size SMALL! I’m not far off my target weight, but happy with how I am now. Anything I lose from now is a bonus. Feel so much better in terms of health, but also mentally. I feel like the person I used to be.

Hair loss. I started losing hair a couple of months ago. I have long hair and had lots of it, but not particularly thick. The loss seems to have slowed down now (just a few dropping out when washing or brushing it). No bald patches and I suppose it is quicker to dry my hair!

I’ve lost about 6 stone, with another stone and a half to reach target. I look 10 years younger.

Please can you expand on collagen protein? I'm also having a hair loss stress. I've got really thick hair but I'm stressed I'll end up like Homer Simpson

It is a stab in the dark as Im just trying to ensure my nutrition is as good as it can be in advance. I dont know if thats the right sort of stuff to be using

Hi, I start my 14 day LSD on Boxing Day and my surgery is on the 9th in the UK. Are there any other active forums out there I should be stalking to find people on a similar timeline? I’m mic dropping on a turkey sandwich and can’t wait to start living my life to the full again.
