I'm booked!!! Can't believe it I'm so scared and nervous but kind of excited too? I just want to thank you all for starting these threads I would never have done this without reading real peoples experiences you are all brilliant. Xxx

coldandverytired · 24/03/2022 23:35

@Twinsandsomenwhere are you going and when?? My Op is 3rd May- if you’re near then we can be buddies, if it’s later on I can give you my experiences!

Good luck Flowers

Twinsandsome · 25/03/2022 09:05

@coldandverytired my OP is 13 April!!! Because it’s Easter week I had a bit of time booked off work already so it will make things easier that way as it can be a nightmare getting leave approved at work. I’m so nervous and still can’t believe I’m doing it but trying to give my all to the LRD on the hope it will reduce my risks a wee bit as at the min I’d say I’m very high risk with high BMI. I have went with Dr tuna in Adana to be honest having me companion staying in the room with me the whole time made my decision for me. Yes please to having a buddy as I’m nervous and I haven’t told an awful lot that I’m doing this and the couple that I have had said aww try slimming world and I’m like 🙄 I think I joined it maybe 12 times over the years. How are you feeling about your op? Has anyone previously had an Op keyhole before this op? I had
My gallbladder removed when I was a teen so I’m a wee bit worried I’ll have a lot of scar tissue xx

coldandverytired · 25/03/2022 10:50

wow! not long to go then @Twinsandsome all the best, how are you tackling the LRD? I'm going to go with shakes I think with the occasional small high protein meal.

as far as recovery, did anyone find particular clothes an issue? I've raided shein for some loose jump-suit/ overall type of things so that there's no waistband and they should span enough sizes to last the summer as I hopefully lose weight but I do love my granny knickers Blush and I'm wondering if these will pose an issue with wounds etc?

Twinsandsome · 25/03/2022 11:54

I know it’s all happened so quickly but I have been considering this for the last 6 months-year and only for finding these threads I don’t think I would have went through with it. I started my LRD yesterday which will be 20 days of it by the time of the OP and I am just using slimfast shakes. Yesterday was fine but today I am craving anything and everything but I keep telling myself that the smaller my liver the better it will be. You will get to enjoy Easter before yours starts? Xx

MagentaRocks · 25/03/2022 11:56

@coldandverytired I have a load of shein and yours tops that I have never worn. Some were given to me brand new. You are welcome to them if you want them. PM me if you do.

My surgeon was thrilled with the difference after the LRD. It is worth doing. Good luck.
MagentaRocks · 25/03/2022 12:02

Oh I drove today for the first time since my op. Only to the local shop and took Dh with me in case if was too much but it was fine.

9 days post op and the pain isn't really pain. Just like a really bad stitch where the main incision site is. All the other incisions absolutely fine.

Twinsandsome · 25/03/2022 14:29

Thank you that's great to hear. What way did you do your LRD @MagentaRocks? You are doing fantastic 9 days post op! Xx

Twinsandsome · 25/03/2022 14:30

@Luckycloverzz what date are you? How are you feeling about it xx

I did food the first couple of weeks but included shakes. Dietician said as long as I can keep with in calorie range I could do shakes and food. The last week I did shakes but I did have egg the night before and for breakfast on the day as I was an afternoon appointment.

Twinsandsome · 26/03/2022 21:12

Hi @thatyouleaveinspace could you get you know that milk that's purple top? I think it's the one that's basically coloured water? It might do the trick. Keep going with it it will be worth it in the end that's what I keep telling myself anyways. Xx

thatyouleaveinspace · 27/03/2022 21:00

Hi @Twinsandsome thank you for suggestion I'll ask the specialist nurse tomorrow x

thatyouleaveinspace · 28/03/2022 05:38

Where did everyone had or is having theirs done!?
I'm having mine on 9th April at my local Spire hospital x gastric sleeve

Twinsandsome · 28/03/2022 15:43

I am due to have my surgery on 13 April, I fly to Adana in turkey on 12 April. I personally would have loved to have had the surgery in the UK but I just can't afford to and I would be scared if I waited to I'd saved enough Id be a few stone heavier. I did look into finance etc but I've a very young family and with the costs of everything apart from my public sector wage increasing I likely would never have managed it. X

Twinsandsome · 28/03/2022 15:45

@MagentaRocks how are you getting on this week? How long to you have off work? Xx

MagentaRocks · 28/03/2022 16:08

Hi @Twinsandsome I'm doing well thank you. I was back to work today so just under 2 weeks off. I wfh today though but actually at work tomorrow. I haven't had any issues. Still feel like I have a bad stitch where the main incision was but not painful as such. Not knackered like they said I would be.

Still on the puree stage. Just over a week until I can go onto soft food and I can't wait I desperately want to eat something I can chew like scrambled eggs. I'm not eating much but trying to get my calories up. I have mash with protein cheese spread added to it in the evenings. It's not much but it is savoury which is lovely as mostly having shakes, yoghurt and jelly. I have issues with food textures and how food looks so struggling with the puree stage as can't face normal food that is pureed. I have emailed my dietician and hoping she says I can start the soft food early. But if not I will cope. It will be worth it.

I haven't told many people I had this done, but one was asking how i am and I said my mood has lifted. I didn't realise how unhappy I was until I wasn't. I have lots more energy and feel so much more positive. I am doing lots around the house - well as much as I can without lifting and I can see light at the end of the tunnel now.

Absolutely no regrets. Wish I had done it sooner.

Twinsandsome · 28/03/2022 18:07

@MagentaRocks your post has been just what I needed to hear as I could eat my arm off right now!

So glad to hear about work too as I will have less than two weeks too because I don't want to submit a sick line as I don't want work knowing and also doubt it would pass anyways as it's elective surgery. I will try working from home most of that first week back but I can't help but worry that the travelling I'm going to have to do after surgery will slow down my progress but I booked seats today and paid a bit extra to get an extra legroom seat so hopefully that will help a bit.

I just can't shake a feeling that I won't make it through surgery or something and won't need to worry about the flight home as I'll be in a box but I keep trying to tell myself I'm only early 30's and hoping I'll be ok.

Lovely to hear a side effect of the surgery has been that your mood has lifted that's brilliant especially as you hadn't realised in the past that you even didn't have low moods. Xxx

Twinsandsome · 28/03/2022 18:12

@MrsZlatan @MrMrsJones I know you both travelled for yours. Have you any advice of things to get to make the journey home easier and how did you find the flights with your wounds xx

I was worried about the surgery and had a few tears on the day. Perfectly normal to think about it.

thatyouleaveinspace · 29/03/2022 14:12

You are all amazing!!! Xx
Day four of pre op diet and it's getting a little easier I guess still
Hungry all the time.

I had booked to go to Riga Latvia however when I told parents they were not impressed and paid for me to have it at the local spire. I'm very grateful but it doesn't sit well taking 12k as a gift..but they said they want to help me as they are so worried about me which I didn't realise ❤️

That’s lovely of them. They just want you to be happy and it is nice they recognise that you need to do this.

The pre op diet is hard. As you get furthe into it it does get easier but also a little harder mentally but the end result is worth it.

I am desperate to move on to the soft food stage but have another week to go, but I just see it as one week in my life that is going to be better from now on. Even still being overweight I am so much more confident and happy.

2nd weigh in tomorrow after the surgery. I am excited to see what I have lost this week but also dreading it in case I m disappointed but I do know logically some weeks will be a poor loss. But I will no longer have massive binges that make me feel like shit and once things have settled and I am on proper food I will be able to enjoy food more as I will just eat smaller portions of protein rich food with the odd time wher I don’t worry about protein and nutrition.

Wereeaglesdare · 29/03/2022 17:45

Hi, I have been sleeved 24/3/22 I am currently 1st 4lb down Inc Pre op diet. 7lb down from surgery date. Would be great to go on this journey with you all as it is brand new. Currently surviving off some broths and diluted evaporated milk. Can't tolerate protein shakes right now or milk weirdly. Can't wait to be on pureed stage! How did people find the liquids?? I'm still really sleepy tbh could sleep all day but managing my vitamins and much more water over the last few days.

The wind pain was bad but now it's much better. Is anyone able to share their 3 month weight loss and their 6 month weight loss as a little inspiration for me? Thank you

Twinsandsome · 29/03/2022 18:33

Aww @thatyouleaveinspace that's lovely and probably a weight off their mind that your not travelling too. I can't stop thinking about food at the minute I hope in another day or two I stop feeling as hungry.

@MagentaRocks no matter what the scales say you you've achieved so much already in feeling more confident and happier but im sure you will do great in the scales too 😘

@Wereeaglesdare that is amazing. Please keep us updated on your progress as these stories are really keeping me going at the minute. Xxx
