Have you ever lost weight by doing home workouts?

I'm on day 4 of my life overhaul. I can only exercise at home as I'm a single parent to a toddler, I also work full time.
I'm currently doing Les Mills on Demand, it's the only exercise I've ever really enjoyed aside from spinning but my house doesn't have the space for a spin bike.
I work up a phenomenal sweat when I do LMOD, particularly body combat and body step.. I have a step, weights and bar bell to do body pump too.
I have about 3 stone to lose.. Has anyone successfully lost a large amount of weight doing home work outs?

Hello! I lost 2 stone last year during lockdown by calorie counting and doing Les Mills on demande workouts...i did mix it up doing other youtube workouts and long walks but onky 30mins a day workouts.....it defo works if you're persitant.

It comes down to calories in verses calories out.
Don't just rely on exercise.
A 25 minute jog or a 45 minute walk only burns 200 calories, there's approx 185 calories in a chocolate bar.
Cut down your calories, reduce your carb & sugar intake and add in an exercise regime then you'll lose weight.
I exercise 5 days a week, weight training and cardio / cross fit, if I don't eat healthy I don't lose weight.

I’ve lost six stone this year by calorie counting and home workouts. Mostly Davina McCall DVD’s.

To be honest, I think the calorie counting had more effect on weight loss than exercise, but I’ve got really defined muscles in my arms and legs now from the exercise. Still working on my abs though!

MissisBoote · 04/09/2021 23:22

Weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise. The more exercise you do, the more likely you'll be making healthy food choices too.

Chakaparm · 04/09/2021 23:23

Of course I'm calorie counting too.. Meant to say that too. I'm tracking everything on my fitness pal!

You might not lose weight, but you'll build muscle and burn fat, so your body shape will likely change for the better.

Does it really matter what the number on the scales say? I went down a dress size when I took up running, but the scales remained the same. Now they're in the bin Smile I go by my clothes.

If you want fat loss then eat decent amounts of protein and lots of fresh fruit and veg (non-processed foods). No need to count calories as long as you're not filling up on anything overly sugary or highly refined carbs.

Yes Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. Results in 10 days

Join us on the Les Mills thread Smile

I've had great results with LMOD alongside calorie counting. Bodypump and Core have made the biggest difference to my body shape (even though I hate Core!), but the cardio classes are amazing calorie burners to allow me to eat more!

doadeer · 04/09/2021 23:27

Yes. I lost 3 stone over a year or so. I do 3 pilates sessions at home and my only exercise outside is walking with the pram - I have a chronic pain condition and can't do any high impact. Biggest impact is what you eat but I do have a nice hard tummy from all the abs work.

AndTime · 04/09/2021 23:31

I did in the first lockdown with Les mills. I love body combat and grit!

Blueleah · 04/09/2021 23:34

I lost 2st without exercising at all, just by cutting calories. So if I can lose weight without exercising at all then yes, you can lose weight doing home workouts.

Chakaparm · 04/09/2021 23:40

It's not so much the number on the scales, it's just how you feel. I felt lethargic, sluggish and generally not energised at all.. I want to feel good as well as shift the pounds, I used to go to the gym 6 days a week and all I did was classes, I went from 13stone to 9 stone in less than a year. I have 3 stone to lose to get me back to the weight I was happiest and just don't want to feel lethargic and crap anymore. Exercise is very good for mental health in some people, I've exercised my way through some awful times in my life.
I'm hoping I just keep up the motivation, it's day 4 now, tomorrow I'm taking a rest, going to work out 5 times a week with Sunday and Wednesday as rest days.

I started running again. This was admittedly some time ago and I have always done this - stopping and starting - but.... I ran every day with my dogs for about 30 minutes and within a month I had dropped a dress size.

i need to start again........

Titsywoo · 04/09/2021 23:50

I lost 4 stone about 10 years ago with a 1500-1600 cal a day diet then 6 out of 7 days I did a Davina DVD for an hour

Deux · 05/09/2021 00:03

Can you get steps in daily too? 10k to 12k steps per day will do a lot as a crude measure of energy expenditure. I’d build your meals around protein and 6 or 7 portions of fruit and veg, aiming for 100g of protein. It’s very satiating and helps make better food choices without feeling deprived.

Also you might like Emma Storey-Gordon’s fitness and nutrition podcasts at ESG Fitness. They’re not faddy, science based, lots of dispelling diet myths etc

That's fantastic. Which online Pilates videos did you follow? I don't know where to start with Pilates but would love to find something I can do from home. Would also love a hard stomach...

Oh I was thinking of starting a similar thread.
I'm hoping by calorie counting, getting my steps in and home work outs I can get myself out of the funk I'm in at the moment! Feel so sluggish and ugh!

doadeer · 05/09/2021 10:09

@penguinpostcard
Ah I use a 1:1 instructor on Zoom as I have a lot of back problems and need specialised classes.

If this guy does online classes his content is fab

I toned up with home workout dvds. The weight loss wasn't massive but there were definite inches lost
