I lost just over 4 stone in 6 months but that was because I was ill and basically hardly eating and vomiting a lot fortunately I had 4 stone to lose at the time . Good luck with it it sounds like you are doing very well . I do think that it needs to be a sensible lifestyle change rather than an actual diet if you want to keep the weight off long term .

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 10/09/2020 14:07

Yes, took about a year, from 13 stone to 8.5. You can totally lose 4 stone in a year from 17 stone starting point. Good luck!

I was 18.10 now 14.6

MaMisled · 10/09/2020 14:13

Well done! I lost 5.5 st in 8 mths on 1700 then 1500 then 1300 cals. I clocked up at least 5 miles a day, with dogs, p.t work and dancing at home. I have kept it off for 3 yrs but its sooo hard! I'm a binger so I stick to 1200 or 1300 cals a day then have a 2 hr utter blow out of my forbidden favourites every 9 to 14 days. Works for me! I recommend a Fitbit. It is a brilliant tool for loss and maintenance. Never ignore true hunger and drink loads of water!

I'm down 3 stone in lockdown, alternate day fasting and calorie counting.

Another 3 to go at least...

Quiero · 10/09/2020 14:19

I lost 5 stone in a year by calorie counting but I would advise you to up your calorie count to at least 1500 for your weight. 1200 is hard to sustain for any length of time so best to start higher and lower cals gradually. Losing weight is easy, its keeping it off thats hard but the more sensible you are from the start the easier it becomes.

TheStirrer · 10/09/2020 15:23

I have lost just over 5st since the start of the year - was a bit heavier than you but perfectly possible with a bit of effort. Different things work for different people but I have reduced my carbs to less than 100g per day and upped my exercise. Still losing weight on 1700 calls per day but more slowly now

Loseastonein21years · 10/09/2020 17:48

Another one recommending you up your calories. You used to eat 6000 so why cut back so drastically? I have lost nearly 3 stone eating at least 1700 calories a day and I was 3 stone lighter than you at my heaviest. At 17 stone you can eat quite a lot and still lose so take advantage of it! As you rightly say, it’s a long haul thing and if you are an overeater, 1200 is not sustainable long term.

wannabebump · 10/09/2020 17:53

I lost 3 stone in 16 weeks and my starting weight was lower so yes you absolutely could... good luck x

thedalaisllama · 10/09/2020 18:00

Haven't done it but interested in the replies. I have 7 stone to lose to become my ideal weight or about 5 to bring myself back into the healthy range. My weight has always yo-yo'ed but I had never had a problem losing weight...until now. Can't seem to shift even half a stone and it almost seems to be climbing before my very eyes. Watching with interest.

NiceGerbil · 10/09/2020 18:05

Yes it took 3 years though but I've sustained it for a decade now.

I used my fitness Pal to track calories and persuade me that no the can of Coke isn't worth it etc

ChequerBoard · 10/09/2020 18:09

I've lost just over 10 stone. I started on 1st June 2019 and had lost 8 stone by the end of Jan 2020. Since then, I've lost a further 2.5 stone but very slowly.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 10/09/2020 18:18

I lost 6 stone over 9 months a few years back. Never thought or planned it to go that quickly. Started off quick and tailed off at the end though. Have largely kept most of it off, lockdown saw me put some back but not a massive amount and I'm slowly getting rid of that now.

Good luck with the journey, and don't get too disheartened with any plateaus - they're normal.

planningaheadtoday · 10/09/2020 18:30

Yes, I've lost 40lbs since May.

I cut out flour, sugar, all refined carbohydrates and other high GI foods.
It really was that easy. I didn't count calories or portions.

I no longer have sugar spikes resulting in the hunger cycle continuing and needing to eat again. So I just eat normally because I'm not hungry.

The weight fell off. I have another 20lbs to go.

katey2020 · 10/09/2020 19:28

Thanks for all your reply's I've never been a been really hungry since on a diet. So didn't real think about putting my calories intake up. you have all done so well 😊😊 x I'm trying my hardest

Coincidentally I hit the 4st mark today. 4st 0.4lbs to be precise. I started a VLCD on the 21st May and I have about another stone to get to the target of a ‘normal’ BMI. VLCD’s aren’t for everyone but it’s quick.

Good luck

katey2020 · 12/09/2020 07:43

PaddyF0dder · 12/09/2020 07:49

Yeah. Lost nearly 5 stone.

It took a year - calorie counting and exercise.

I set a Caroline restriction and kept to it. Everything was logged in my fitness pal. No cheating. No cheat days. No bullshit. Every day.

I started with couch 2 5k and finished it in 9 weeks.

Then I joined a cheap council gym. I made an appointment with a trainer and made a plan of escalating activity: mixture of cardio (spin, running, rowing) and resistance (machines at first, the eventually free weights).

On days that I didn’t go to gym I always went on a 30 min walk at lunchtime.

Again, no cheating, no off days. Every day.

Took a lot of focus and determination, but my weight dropped very consistently.

Good luck!

katey2020 · 12/09/2020 07:56

You did so well to lose 5 stone I've lost 1 stone and 5 pounds now 9 pounds to go and I've lost 2 stone I cant see a different yet. I walk a hour a day 30 mins a time as wen I take my kid to school. 20mins biking to work and as I'm a cleaner in on my feet rushing around for 2.5 hours as well I like joining in doing in watching youtube videos I do 20 mins in the Moring also. I don't really get hurngy what's why I only eat 1,000-1,200 for my weight I should eat more ino but Dr said he's happy what Im doing s I've got to go get weighted at Drs every month so there can keep any eye on my weight x
