Vegan weight loss

I have had a persistent 2 stone to lose for around 5 years (since DC 2 basically). I feel like I'm looking bigger than ever in lockdown and just feel sluggish and unhealthy, and like many juggling home schooling and work has me eating crap and easy to make food. My weight doesnt seem to have gone up. It has hovered around 11 stone for the past 5 years (I'm 5'5"). There have been times where I have made an effort and lost around half a stone but put it back on when weddings and holidays etc come around.

If any vegans would like to share recipes for weight loss that would be great. Opportunities for exercise are limited so I want to focus on diet although I'm doing what exercise I can.

Not interested in fasting diets but just healthy meals.

This group might be helpful if you use facebook.

It's run by a vegan nutritionist:

I joined ages ago for similar reasons to you, but haven't really dived in to be honest.

Vegan, mom of two here, I'm 5'6 and was hovering around 10 stone for the last 5 years. Started lockdown by eating all around me, but cut back about a month ago.

I'm having homemade Granola with fruit and Soya Yogurt for breakfast, a homemade veg soup or salad for lunch and maybe a bean chilli or tofu stir fry for dinner.

I've cut out most snacks and stopped having a glass of wine most evenings and I think that's helped the most. I started a short Hiit workout every day too and I'm down 8 lbs.

Baked, instead of Tofu is fine, and actually just smaller portions of the kind of thing I usually eat is working too..

I eat a lot of mainly veg, like roasted cauliflower, stir fries, curries, etc and not too much vegan junk food like meat substitutes.

Thanks @AnnieMaul I will look at that Facebook group.

@TinyHouseFan I eat similar for my meals (stir fries, curries, buddha bowl type meals) but sadly drink most evenings and eat crisps etc. I know therein lies the problem. I am still at that point of eating everything around me! I'm very hungry despite not going anywhere!

Yep, I've been there! Most Doritos are vegan and I can easily polish off a big bag in front of the TV and barely even realise I've been eating!

I just stopped. I finish dinner, brush my teeth and refuse to eat until breakfast. Its hard but I'd say that is the reason for the majority of the weight loss

goteam · 09/06/2020 21:31

I have done that tonight - brushed teeth and am reading as opposed to watching TV which is when the mindless crisp eating takes hold! And indeed, chilli heatwave doritos are vegan along with lots of other lovely things!

I could have written your post. I am so fed up with how much I weigh just now but I can’t seem to stop eating. I’m finding I’m not enjoying food as much as I used to. I feel like I never have anything healthy in that I can just eat, everything has to be prepared and cooked. So I end up eating crisps! I’m so annoyed at myself for my lack of motivation. I need to have some filling, healthy snacks in. But what? I used to have quorn cocktail sausages in the fridge to snack on, but they’re not vegan. Olives maybe?

goteam · 10/06/2020 08:32

@Juliecloud it is annoying about the quorn sausages. I wish they would just make them vegan. I have bought some tartex mushroom pate and oat cakes and going to try having one of those if I feel hungry.

I'm not enjoying food either but I feel that an evening glass of wine, box set and packet of crisps is all there is to look forward to at the minute!! Also, mid afternoon tea and biscuits! I'm usually a lot more active and while that often includes eating out and drinking, vegan options in restaurants are often healthier than the ones I cook!

It doesn't help not going out. In usual times I would swim a few times a week and notice if my swimsuit was getting tight. Now I'm literally wearing the same 4 baggy t-shirts (no bra!) and 4 pairs of harem trousers / joggers on rotation because of working from home. Ordinarily my smarter work trousers and blazers would also alert me to weight gain. Now it is just looking at some photos we took at home that I noticed I'm looking huge!

I'm going to make a real effort today. Starting with porridge for breakfast, some soup and bread with fruit for lunch and a deliciously ella recipe for dinner then no more eating for the day....
