Anyone got the Original Callenetics Video?

Argh! Oh no!

My video player has broken, which is a real pain because I want to keep up my exercise until we've saved up to replace it

Has anyone got the original callenetics video to hand and can tell me the names of each exercise and the number of repetitions? Reckon I could keep up the routine on that.

Have started to see some results with it, so don't want to give up now!!!

Thank you!

I have the book if that's any use. I don't know if it's exactly the same exercises as the video.

GeorginaA · 26/09/2004 12:12

That would be great, bran, thank you! From memory, I think it was more or less the same without the hanging from a doorway exercise (because too many people managed to injure themselves when their doorframes broke!). Wish I'd kept the book now, but I remember thinking "nah, I'll never use it... the video is easier to follow"...

That's fantastic bran, thank you. That looks like pretty much all of them with a few added extras (don't remember open and close for example) and some slightly different orders. With that list though, I should remember as I go along and I'll guarantee I won't miss anything important out.

A thousand thank yous for typing all that out!

Open and close is sitting with your back against the wall. You hold onto the barre (or the window sill for those who don't live in a dance studio) and lift your legs straight in front of you, using your stomach muscles to keep them as high as possible, then open and close your legs with a scissor action.

I think it's pretty tough on the lower back if you don't have a strong back, which is probably why it was left out of the video.

I really must go back to Callanetics, I used to do it years ago and it was great for my figure. Especially now as I'm losing lots of weight and it's all coming off my bum and hips so I look very out of proportion, the exercise would be really good for me enormous belly.

GeorginaA · 26/09/2004 12:59

I vaguely remember that one - it was hard work, glad it was left out

I'm not dieting at all after childbirth (ds2 is now 4 months old) and while as a result I haven't lost much weight (a bit, but not much. The multiple cornettos once the kids are in bed might have something to do with that though!), I can now fit into a smaller dress size (yay!) so I'm a big callanetics fan now . Plus, I have some chance of fitting in one hour a week rather than half an hour daily like some fitness things require...

Don't know if it's of any interest to you Georgina, but the Callanetics videos are being released on DVD next month, but they're region 1 only. Amazon.com has them.

I don't know how good the quality will be though, sometimes when things are transferred from video to DVD it isn't done very well. The picture and sound can be pretty awful, and sometimes it's not even broken down into useful chapters.

GeorginaA · 27/09/2004 23:05

Oh that's fantastic! Of much interest, ta. It's one of the few videos we have left and we've both (dh & I) had a good whinge that it seems ridiculous to spend fifty quid (for a cheapy) to replace the video machine just for one video effectively.

Now all I have to find out is if I can get Region 1 disks to play on my DVD player

Why don't you have the video that you have copied onto a DVD? Where I work (a market research company) they do this so that the researchers can watch groups on their computers. I did a quick google and a few companies came up. They might not be willing to do branded stuff though, as I think it might be an infringement of the copyright, but you could always check.

That said, if they have done the new DVDs (from amazon) properly then it might be very useful for you to have the flexibility of chapters.

GeorginaA · 27/09/2004 23:16

That's worth a look thank you. Especially if our clunky DVD player can't cope with Region 1 (think we'll need some sort of hack either way).

OP posts:
bran · 27/09/2004 23:16

Ignore me! I just had a look at the prices for transferring, and you might as well buy the new one from Amazon as it'll work out about the same.

GeorginaA · 27/09/2004 23:18

LOL. Well, as I say... it'll depend if they're intending to bring out a Region 2 at any point if my DVD player can't cope with Region 1. Good to keep options open anyway - can't be more expensive than buying a new video recorder!!
