Metabolic Age anyone?

I've joined a health club after many years of little exercise. I'm 52, menopausal and everything feels like it's going downhill.
I'm at least 2 stone overweight.
My metabolic age has registered on their body's am machine as 67Shock
It shall be doing 4 x 30 mins a week at club plus extra walking.
Has anybody got their metabolic age down?

Yes. I was 63 against a metabolic age of 47 a few years back. Over the course of 2 years I got the metabolic age lower than my actual age. Now it's crept back up again. Essentially it seems to work it out on the basis of your body fat percentage, so losing weight won't help the metabolic age unless you are losing a high enough amount of fat.

Thanks Choc, it's certainly motivated me

How do they work it out?

CalmConfident · 12/10/2019 22:22

I am guessing you have been on a Boditrax machine thingy! My gym has one as well. I am not quite sure how it works it out...but yes, I have got mine to reduce with some weight loss and extra strength / muscle.

When I was in my 40s, my metabolic age was in the 60s Shock. I was very overweight at the time and didn't exercise.

I'm now 52 and menopausal. My metabolic age is 37.

I lost six stones, I eat very well and I lift very heavy. It's tough but ..... I'm a normal woman with a normal life and a full-time job.

You can do this Smile

I still look 52 though (in my face). Pffft Grin

I am 33 at 49 yo

Egghead68 · 15/10/2019 17:49

Mine was 64 when I was 49 and my 75-year-old mother’s was 60 at the same sitting! I wasn’t overweight or diabetic and exercised regularly (unlike my overweight, non-exercising, overweight mother).

Shudder to think what it is now I am 51.

Egghead68 · 15/10/2019 17:50

Borderline diabetic mother I mean (not overweight twice!)
