50lbs to go

ThisBigFatRestart · 29/08/2019 10:30

I NEED to lose at least 50lbs! I keep starting and stopping diets that dont work then feeling truly awful both physically and mentally. Just returned from another holiday where I felt useless around the kids. Dad was off in rock pools and climbing with the kids whilst I was sat watching. Minimum photos of me too as I cant get a decent picture without three chins so have stopped trying!

So today I have joined WW online - it worked for me when I got married 10 years ago and got a dress 2 sizes too small. I then went on to have two DCs and have carried the extra weight ever since the youngest was born (over 6 years ago).

The extra weight is really starting to cause joint problems - I am hyper mobile anyway so any excess weight isnt advisable. But I am now struggling to get out of bed on a morning or get up and downstairs.

So here I go, Day 1 for me today! Would love some weight loss buddies with about the same amount of weight too lose if anyone wants to join me?

I’ll join you I need to lose 50lbs+ back and forth on various ‘diets’ and ‘lifestyle cbanges’ lost 4.5 stone before I got married 4 years ago and have put it all back on to the lb 😂🙄

BeBraveAndBeKind · 01/09/2019 23:06

I'll join too. I'm now 190lbs and 5'4". I lost 20lbs last year but put it all back on again. I know I can do it if I apply myself!

RubySlippers77 · 01/09/2019 23:46

I'm with you please OP. Was doing well before the school holidays but six hundred weeks with squabbling, demanding toddlers put paid to my good habits and intentions. Yesterday's breakfast was a Mars bar Confused

Will weigh in soon but I'm aiming for 50lb too. I was working out that my DTs will probably want their own birthday parties with friends from this time next year and for some reason that just horrified me, the thought of meeting other school mums whilst being this weight. I think as inconvenient as it is carrying around a lot of few extra pounds, it didn't 'matter' as such to me as I don't see anyone often (I'm a SAHM). But I will be forced to broaden my horizons soon, eeek.....!

PurpleCoffeeCup · 02/09/2019 10:12

Ooh some friends, that's great!! I actually started again yesterday as kids were invited to grandparents caravan last minute so we had a heavy food weekend. Weighed in for my start yesterday at 13st 13.2lb.

Had a great food day yesterday inspite of having a day out with the kids and friends. Managed to stay within my points.

I am sick of feeling heavy, fat and lethargic! I'm back at work tomorrow too after the summer off. My job is quite physical and the extra weight is truly a burden. The routine of work though should help stick to plan plus I'm more active naturally when at work due to the nature of the job plus split shifts which involve additional walking to and from.

Hows everyone doing today?

PurpleCoffeeCup · 02/09/2019 10:14

Oops just realised I name changed too sorry. I am the original OP - will be sticking with current name!!

doodlejump1980 · 02/09/2019 10:26

Ah well done Doodle that's a great start!

PurpleCoffeeCup · 02/09/2019 13:48

I turned 40 earlier this year and it was one of my promises to myself to get my weight sorted!

Fere · 02/09/2019 15:18

I have started a month ago wanting to lose over 50lb, I've lost a lot on 800 cal diet (13 lb this month).
It takes a bit of time to get your body to get used to live on lower calories, so you may want to start with 1500, then 1200 then lower it further. Ultimately it has to be right diet for you, and you have to be in the right place mentally to be strong in moments of weaknesses (for that I recommend to always have hard boiled eggs to snack on handy and keep your food diary in MFP).

PurpleCoffeeCup · 03/09/2019 09:29

Fere - well done that's amazing. I tried the 800 cal and 5:2 (and keto and shakes and all the others in between) but just couldn't make them work for me. I have had success with WW previously which is why I went back to that. I lost a lot of weight for my wedding with them, plus all the baby weight with the eldest. I regained the weight plus additional with my youngest then went on with some health problems gaining even more. I know WW produces a slower weight loss but it's a habit change I'm after as well. I'm a big emotional eater and need to change my mindset long term.

I'm not knocking anyone diet choice ever as they hopefully all get the same results eventually. I am in awe of you though managing to stick with that and of your good weight loss for last month! Well done!!

RubySlippers77 · 04/09/2019 11:24

I couldn't get on with low cal diets either @PurpleCoffeeCup, just didn't help me cope with running around after two toddlers all day! That said, if I don't plan carefully I end up eating chocolate/ cake/ crap as I only have a minute to eat something, and then I have even less energy. I feel waaaaay too heavy for my height and am desperate to get some spring back in my step!

Weigh in day will be Friday I think. I know it will be a bad one to start as it's AF week, my periods are heavy and make me feel terrible and then I medicate with chocolate, but at least I can plan from there Sad

PurpleCoffeeCup · 05/09/2019 10:30

I went a bit off track yesterday so weighed in today and 2lb down so well try reign it in now so I dont end up as a gain next week. I'm useless at this diet lark but damn determined this time. If I slip I need to pull my socks back up the next day so a bad day doesn't turn into a bad week!!

RubySlippers77 · 06/09/2019 11:13

How are you doing @PurpleCoffeeCup?

I weighed in today and have 47lb to lose Sad Shock I have about 30 weeks to make a sizeable dent in the lard before I have to fit into a posh frock. Today's task will be sorting out the food cupboards to make a proper shopping list before hitting the supermarket over the weekend. Really really hoping the DC will have a nap as that would make it much easier!

Are you following any exercise plan? I'd like to take up running again and dust off my 30 Day Shred DVD. There are loads of things I'd like to do with the DC - trampolining, martial arts, swimming etc - but at the moment I feel too fat Confused

BeBraveAndBeKind · 06/09/2019 12:39

I'm being a bit more mindful of what I'm eating (although I did demolish a large fruit and nut bar yesterday!) and have restarted some half-arsed logging on My Fitness Pal.

PurpleCoffeeCup · 07/09/2019 11:44

@rubyslippers77 I've been pants if I'm honest! Dusting off and trying again from today. Just realised it's my Christmas do in 14 weeks. I have a dress hanging in my closet I would love to wear again in a size 14, currently wearing a 16/18. Soooooo 14 weeks at a lb a week is a stone, should hopefully get me back in that dress. Gonna go weigh in shortly (still in my pjs as having a last morning). Not sure about exercise - I have a problem with my joints and whilst this overweight it could actually do more harm than good. Soooooo I need to think about that carefully. I'm having trouble just walking at the moment as have a foot injury which my weight isnt helping at all..... it's all a catch 22 for me at the moment, I feel. 30 day shred could work I just have to be careful with jumping Jack's etc.

StarsOutShining · 07/09/2019 14:36

Purple I can't exercise, much as I'd love to - especially for the enjoyment of walking, running, swimming, etc. All I can manage is a very short walk to the local shops most days. But it doesn't stop me losing weight - with the right diet/healthy approach i think its do-able. Losing weight is meant to be about 80% diet; 20% exercise and some people think exercise even less of a factor - unless you are some kind of Olympian athlete!

I do a bit of intermittent dieting e.g. one day: normal healthy eating e.g. 1200-1400; next day - more restrictive e.g. 800 calories. But now I'm 6 weeks in I'm more flexible and generally finding it more intuitive, and the weight is coming off slowly but surely (I'm on the 100 healthy days thread).

StarsOutShining · 07/09/2019 14:38

My plan is also to get from size 16/18 to size 14 .... about another 20 pounds ...

RubySlippers77 · 09/09/2019 23:24

I have a lovely size 14 dress staring at me every time I open the wardrobe too @PurpleCoffeeCup - but I still can't fit in it Sad hoping that I'll be able to take that to the wedding in May. I'll still need some sort of proper posh frock for the ceremony itself or as posh as you can have with two grubby toddlers in tow but I'll start looking for that after Christmas. I could be a stone lighter by then

@StarsOutShining I walk loads and it doesn't help much (I average 15K steps per day) so I think it's true that you have to get right out of your comfort zone for it to affect your weight loss to any extent! Of course exercise is good for toning/ motivation/ general health - but diet is much more important for weight loss.

I've actually had a pretty good day food-wise and have more meals prepped. If I can whizz through tomorrow morning's task I'll do some more cooking before school pick up time. Thank you for the tip about the 100 Healthy Days thread, I'll head over to take a look as I'm counting today as day 1 Grin

RubySlippers77 · 11/09/2019 09:17

On to day 3 of healthy eating for me. Fingers crossed I can make it to day 4 without hitting the Nutella Grin

BeBraveAndBeKind · 11/09/2019 11:30

Good luck @Rubyslippers77. Nutella is tough to ignore!

I'm down 4lbs since the 1st September. I'm thinking much more consciously about everything I eat and am eating less.

RubySlippers77 · 13/09/2019 23:49

I have actually done a while 5 days of healthy eating (and only had a very small portion of Indian takeaway food this evening) - have lost 3lb since last week Grin (to be fair that was partly due to the end of AF and water retention, but still encouraging!)

44lb to go still Sad how is everyone else doing?

BeBraveAndBeKind · 14/09/2019 09:04

Well done RubySmile

Not doing too badly. I've decided ne snacking, no crisps, no biscuits, no chocolate and no alcohol since last Saturday. I only had one spoonful of ice cream (rather than half a tub) and have been much more aware of portion control. Down 5lbs since I started on 1 September so happy with that.

giggleshizz · 14/09/2019 10:23

I keep joining these threads and then falling if the wagon so giving it another shot. Just looked at mfp. Since 2014 I've gone from 93kg to 117kg. So nearly 25kg (which is a bit more than 50lb).

It's a combination of starting ADs, stopping BF and walking everywhere with buggy and entering Peri menopause (am 45).

Sooo back on mfp and trying to stick to 1300 kc per day. Also downloaded a gastric band hypnosis which I listen to st night - anyone else tried this.

Mainly it gets me down as joints hurt, lack of energy and none of my nice clothes fit. Also feel embarrassed bumping in to people I haven't seen for a while.

Using slimfast bars and shakes to keep kc low and eating a sensible meal every evening.

Most of my kc are consumed after DD goes to bed through stress - single parent working full time.

Hope to loose a couple of kg before Xmas!!
